It should have been ruled a turnover, and he also thought so at the time he asked for the TO. Don't try to spin it otherwise, because the staffer next to him told him to knock it off.
Was it a turnover? No. That’s not spinning it, that’s how it was.

There was a clear sequence of events- it's really not a matter of opinion.

Play happened.
Official pointed in Penn State's direction.
Franklin asked for a timeout.
Dude said "Coach, the clock stops on a turnover".
He stopped asking for the timeouts.
Refs changed the ruling.
He took the timeout.

Let me guess: You were also OK with the decision to try to ice Pinegar? What was that logic?

The play clock had wound all the way down to 1 second - CJF correctly called the TO to avoid a Delay of Game the ball was snapped almost coincidental with CJF calling TO. The posing-trolls doing their typical schtick....
Yes, I signed up on the site 13 years ago just to "troll" (aka: Question the guy whose nuts you want to suckle) tonight. How many screenames have you gone through, dickfor?

Oh good lord, he didn’t try to ice Pinegar. That is so beyond stupid it doesn’t deserve a response, but I will give you one. You do realize the timeout is called before the kick is made, right? What if Pinegar would have missed the original kick....CJF would have been called brilliant. You don’t rush a 40+ yard FG and I would imagine Franklin felt the set up was rushed. I’m quite sure there was a reason he called the time out....if you think it was to ice his own kicker, then you’re really not smart.

Can't believe I wasted my time pulling up the video on WatchESPN, but there were 3 seconds when the whistle blew, you handjob.

You're completely full of shit as per usual - you have no idea what CJF saw after the play - the replay showed that an Iowa player immediately came out of the pile with the ball and was trying to hand it to the official. Franklin was attempting to call TO at that point in time. The official simultaneously started pointing PSU possession (and stopped clock) - a PSU staffer seemed to be telling CJF they were calling it PSU possession (which may well have conflicted with what CJF saw including an Iowa player trying to hand the ball to the official). Turned out it was a good thing CJF called TO because the officials attempted to wind the clock after correcting their possession call and CJF immediately had the game stopped, the time put back on the clock and basically told the officials - you can't ridiculously have it both ways. If Iowa had the recovery (as evidenced by Iowa player jumping up with ball), then the TO stands... The time was put back on the clock and the clock remained stopped until Iowa snapoed the ball on 4th Down - PSU would have lost that time had CJF not called the TO based on what he originally saw. BTW, you don't know jack shit what CJF saw when he called TO - especially when an Iowa player immediately popped up with the ball - so stop acting like you do always wrong troll-boy.

If you couldn't pick up on the sarcasm, then you might be a little slow/special.

No handjob, CJF called the TO with 3 or 2 ticks remaining and then the ball was snapped (as evidenced by the TO being granted). The clock wound to the final ticks before being snapped.

Immaturity aside (hence the long line of screenames), I will do this with way fewer words:
The first official signaled our ball- the crowd erupted and the announcers saw the same.
Franklin asked for a timeout.
The Iowa guy gave the ball to the second official (were had 3 guys lying side by side, and the ruling should have been quicker).
The second official changed the call.

The TV guys announced all of this in real time. There is video. It's not arguing opinion/interpretation.

Let's go to your Fantasyland for a second: Why did Franklin tell the assistant "Alright, alright.", and then mouth to the officials about having signaled our ball?

Just admit he got antsy. It doesn't make him a bad person. You seem like the type who will end up on the news someday.

Again, you're factually full of shit always-wrong troll-boy. You claim you know what CJF saw on the play which is complete BULLSHIT as you have no idea what CJF "SAW" (or what he THOUGHT based on what he SAW). Given that the Iowa player immediately jumped up with the ball (trying to hand it to the official), CJF may well have seen the play and thought it was still Iowa's ball regardless of the clown b1g shizhole official's antics. Your nonsense about the announcers...blah, blah, blah and the b1g officials ridiculousness HAVE ZERO TO DO WITH WHAT CJF ACTUALLY "SAW" OR WHAT HE THOUGHT BASED ON WHAT HE SAW you phucking insufferable arrogant-without-reason-whatsoever MORON!!! Nothing you wrote - NOT ONE SINGLE THING - has anything to do with what James Franklin actually "saw" or "thought" on the play, but you're going to tell us all what you've determined he "saw" and "thought" on the play for your self-serving trolling purposes in your typical inimitable troll-boy fashion.

With the Pinegar FG, the play clock was at 1, seemed understandable to me to call the TO although of course it looks bad when Pinegar hits the FG. It didn’t seem certain to me that Franklin was going to call a TO after the turnover, it seemed like Galiano might have just been telling him to get back, off the field. Was hard to tell without being able to read lips.

Idiotic. The logic was that it looked like they weren’t going to get the kick off in time.

Overall the coaching staff did a good job. The team played well, ultimately beating a tough Iowa team. If there's a time for the coaching staff to have a blue ribbon day is next week, if there's a time for the team to execute flawlessly is next week.

Listen, you played 8 games, you're 6-2 and still alive for a shot at a playoff game. Cut Franklin a little break, he's a dam good coach and a phenomenal recruiter.

How should it have been a turnover? The Iowa player was standing next to the referee, with the ball in his hands, while the scrum was still going on (sans ball).

Buddy you have had only 350 people like anything you have said in the last 13 years. I think you might be on the slow side

No doubt, he has no clue what CJF "saw" on the play, let alone what he was thinking based on what he saw, but....that's not going to stop him from determining in self-serving way precisely what CJF saw and thought so he can row, row, row his pathetic little troll boat.

James Franklin said. “We didn’t always play smart, especially early on in the game, but we played gutsy.”

How about including you and your staff's coaching decisions in that statement?

Not to be a negative nellie like you, Glov, but a pertinent question for CJF is: why is your team not improving? I hope some reporter besides David Jones has the balls to ask.
