Clay Helton on the hot seat at USC

Apparently that will thrill a lot of posters on this board. That would clear the way for us to hire that guy that’s out there that will never lose a game.

Who should be on Penn State's short list? I wonder who people want here instead of Franklin.

So, let's take a random poll and percentage that the coach goes to USC, if offered.

1. James Franklin (PSU) - 10%
2. Matt Campbell (ISU) - 75%
3. Pete Carroll (Seahawks) - 25%
4. Chris Petersen (Washington) - 15%
5. Dabo Swinney (Clemson) - 10%
6. Bobby Petrino - Out of work - 150%
7. Chip Kelley (UCLA) - 25%
8. Dino Babers (Syracuse) - 50%
9. Kyle Whittingham (Utah) - 50%
10. Rick Leach (Wazzu) - 50%

I have no scientific basis, but a few of these seem plausible to me.

I think USC is one of the few college jobs where Franklin could “kill it.” It’s a recruiting play with a soft Pac 12 schedule each year. Factor in LA and it could be a real threat to PSU if USC chose to pursue Franklin.

I don’t know about the economic situation with that program and they may want a USC guy.

Tom Bradley
Al Golden
Mike Munchak
And
Jay Paterno

Probably would all be in the top 10

Add in Lavar Arrington and Bobby Engram and you have a lovely 1/2 dozen

I actually like Josh Gattis if Franklin leaves. Maybe Matt Canada too

That was the second article in the past week that mentioned JF as a candidate. Would have to think it will be someone with strong West Coast contacts, but it's nice to see JF is that well respected in other parts of the Country.
But he doesn't fool many here.LOL

I thought the Ravens were going to fire John Harbaugh. Guy hasn't had much success lately but he is a Super Bowl winning coach...and would have incentive to beat his Skunkbear brother.

At least we know he's a great recruiter.

Franklin appears to really love facilities. He’s always wanting to upgrade ours (how bad are they?). What is the big benefit? Already recruiting at a top ten level. Anyway, USC’s aren’t good and as a private school,
I don’t know that they’re going to be writing blank checks for better weight rooms.

Firstly, recruiting. Second, was a great asst coach that Saban thought enough of to pry away. Third, familiar with the program. Fourth, who else is out there?
Who else is out there? I forgot to put that on my resume.

You don’t like Gsttis? Should we float the same tired names and pickup a retread? Who’s on your list? Personally I don’t see JF leaving
Head Coach at PSU isn't a learn as you go job. I don't have a list. Won't be asked to serve on the search committee. I am a stanch supporter of CJF and I am, unlike others, very pleased with the job he is doing.

So there are no head coaching candidates this year? Damn, didn't realize that:confused:

Good point. I don’t know how facilities stack up vs location for recruits. USC never seems to struggle keeping top kids home in SoCal.

Oh, yes, of course, how stupid of me. Why, I'm sure that every recruit John Harbaugh would talk to would simply take one look at that Super Bowl ring, dismissively wave their hand, and say, "Pfft! Every college coach has one of those!"
