Clay Helton on the hot seat at USC

That’ll do it!

I do like Gattis a lot as a wr coach. I agree Franklin isn’t leaving

I don't want Franklin to leave, but here's a guy I'd have at the top of my list if he does (just not sure if he'd ever leave Stanford):

I think USC is one of the few college jobs where Franklin could “kill it.” It’s a recruiting play with a soft Pac 12 schedule each year. Factor in LA and it could be a real threat to PSU if USC chose to pursue Franklin.

I don’t know about the economic situation with that program and they may want a USC guy.
James's wife and daughters would probably LOVE sunny California, the beaches, shopping and.,.......sorry, just thinking out loud.

Oh, yes, of course, how stupid of me. Why, I'm sure that every recruit John Harbaugh would talk to would simply take one look at that Super Bowl ring, dismissively wave their hand, and say, "Pfft! Every college coach has one of those!"
So that's all it takes to recruit?

Can't stand these writers
Why in the hell is Franklin on ever stupid coaching job vacancy list. Like PSU is a stepping stone and small time. Soo stupid

Because the alternative requires work - some thought and research. I'm pretty sure that sort thing is frowned upon in the sports journalism business.

Have you been to LA? It’s a fantastic place to live when you have money. Pasadena is a paradise and just down the road from USC. It’s a great family area.
San Diego and South Orange County, but not LA. Agree though you need a lot of money to even sniff the nice places in Los Angeles County.

I would agree with this - some nice places but they are really struggling now out there with a lot of issues - homeless etc. weather is great but the rest of quality of life is not so great - love San Diego and Orange County/Dana Point area.

True, Pasadena is only 15 miles away from USC. Problem is it’s a 2 hour drive. ;)
I didn’t say short drive. Haha. But on $6 million a year, LA is great. One could buy a nice Greene & Greene craftsman house in Pasadena and “make do” with 72 and sunny all year.

I think you’ll get that anywhere the weather is nice year round. We see that quite a bit in NorCal too. I’ve heard the same about south Florida.

Helton has already been recruiting big time players. this is a coaching situation.

Yep... only if you have money but that top 2% pay half the taxes! The gap out there is widening as the middle class exits to Tex, Az, COL, and Nev. And now Newsome will be governor so more burdens on the rich will continue.

Check out a cost of living calculator and the increase from State College to Brentwood, Beverly Hills, or Westwood can be anywhere from 50-75% higher. He would get killed on taxes and housing. The real targets are Matt Wells, Klye Whittinghm, Chris Petersen, and Jack Del Rio. Del Rio absolutely wants the job.

the fires, the eathquakes, the gangs, the traffic...

I love SoCal.....but it isn't for everyone.

One of my best friends lives there (Calabasas) and bought a Porche 911 Turbo two years ago. On the way home, he hit a redlight. As he came to a stop, he saw a car pull up and looked over (thinking he was going to look way cool). The car was a lime green Lambo being driving by a teen ager. Point is, in SoCal, no matter how well you have it, there is a neighbor with more and better.

USC is a great job when you can pull all the shady wheeling & dealing that Pete Carroll was able to pull in regards to recruiting.

Those days are long gone and I don't think the long term job security is better at USC than PSU. USC is a job that can burn guys out after a few years.

Franklin is in a great spot at PSU. He'd be crazy to leave.

Franklin is not leaving. Any reports to the contrary are just click bait. Psu is his dream job. He is building an elite program here. And he already makes a very big salary.

Add Matt Ruhle and a cardboard cutout of Paterno and most posters will be satisfied

Geoff Collins at Temple is doing a very good job in one of the worst situations one could imagine. I think he could be very successful at USC, or elsewhere.

Why is Temple so bad? Matt Ruhle left a quality program, and Temple has it better than many group of 5 schools.

The stadium situation and lack of attendance makes it difficult to recruit. They have no football tradition and have poor attendance at games. 25,000 in the Linc with an Eagles logo at midfield is not a good atmosphere for a college program. It’s like a poor man’s Pitt. They play in a lousy conference and are strapped for cash. Every decent coach is hired away after a few years just like Ruhle and Addazio who went on to BC, and even Al Golden before him. Their practice facilities are in a slum.
