While Clemson defensive lineman Christian Wilkins worked to defuse the controversy surrounding a play in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl in which he grabbed the groin of Ohio State's Curtis Samuel, teammate Ben Boulware threw fuel onto the fire Wednesday.

"We've done it all year to mess with players," Boulware said. "No one has done it as aggressive as Christian did. We try to be more discreet about it. He grabbed a handful."

Following a short run by Samuel in Ohio State's Fiesta Bowl loss, Wilkins was caught on camera appearing to grab at the Buckeyes' tailback's groin. The play quickly made the rounds on social media, with many Ohio State fans calling the play dirty and suggesting Wilkins should be suspended or even arrested for sexual assault.

Wilkins apologized after the game, saying he was "just being silly" and "it's stuff you do when you're competing." He declined additional comments Wednesday, saying he was simply focused on Clemson's date with Alabama in the national championship game.

Boulware was asked about the controversy, too, and his response was far more impassioned.

"The game is so serious and locked in, and you do stuff to break up the seriousness of the game," Boulware said. "People are trying to say sexual assault, and people who say that have never played football, never been in a locker room, seen the weird stuff -- we're together every day for years, and you get very comfortable with each other."

Boulware is the same POS who laid a choke hold on a player earlier this year.

Yikes, can't believe they discussed this publically. Could be some trouble here but since ESPN won't make anything of it probably not.

On a sports world that is NOT dominated by MENSA members.......Boulware stands out among the crowd

He is an incredible level of idiot......wearing an orange uniform

Very sad commentary when you have to go around and grab peoples nuts in a football game. Wilkens should have been disciplined by his coach or the school as a minimum

Wow. Sexual assault captured on film during the game and no one at ESPN or elsewhere is upset at all. Have they questioned Dabo about it? Calls for a suspension? Now Clemson players say it's no big deal and they've been doing it on purpose all year? And still crickets from Dabo and ESPN?

If a Penn State player pulled this crap, ESPiN and our other competition would be all over us for our "culture" problem. Clemson does it and it's just "harmless fun"?? Nothing to see here? Spin it any way you want......In light of the rapes etc we read about with regularity associated with athletes, I think this is classless. Punks!!! But hey......just win baby!

So Boulware is saying football players routinely grope one another? If that's the case and I had a kid, I'd tell him to stick to baseball.

It's pretty disgusting...but these are kids and I get it. In their mind it is funny.

You would think that recruits would be weirded out by this, unless they are some sort of sexual deviant, in which case maybe they might want to join this circus

Do the Clemson cheerleaders have a chant or cheer for "grabbing nuts"?

Swinney and Clemson are supposed to be big on promoting Christian values. Wonder what value groping falls under.

Swinney uses that for recruiting and community relations. Those in the Northeast may find it 'over the top' but it's pretty much in line with southern baptist behavior in that part of South Carolina (I don't mean to offend anyone but just saying what I've observed in that area).

Do not make the mistake of thinking this puts Swinney in a religious category with Mother Theresa. A lot of it is for show and PR. Again, I don't mean to offend and it's strictly my observations as someone raised in the Northeast. It's just a different attitude down there that can be misinterpreted if you've had no experience with it.

Just wondering where these Clemson players fit on the gender spectrum of 71 options.

True or not true of Urbie when he snagged Floyd from us.....something like the following psu00:

Urban Meyer and God: A Match Made in Gainesville For Sharrif Floyd
By Bleacher Report, Correspondent Jan 22, 2010

It's January and the name of the college football game has shifted from what you did on the field to what you are doing on the trail, the recruiting trail.

For many coaches this means road trips around the country and numerous calls to blue chip recruit. For one coach, it also means a few calls from the ultimate recruiter: God.

Florida Gators coach, Urban Meyer, the man who retired, and then un-retired soon after, has pulled the ultimate recruiting strategy: a epiphany from the BIG GUY upstairs, seeing him returning to coach the Gators and, more importantly, five-star recruit Sharif Floyd.

If this seems impossible to believe allow me to quote the story floating around from one of Floyd's coaches:

"Sharrif was really confused and put a call into Coach Meyer. When they spoke Coach Meyer told him that he had a ‘dream' the night before, and that Coach Meyer saw himself on the sideline coaching Sharrif. Told him that is was a 'message from God that I should come back and coach, as I guess if it's my time to die, I'd rather die on the sidelines coaching you than anywhere else in the world.'"

"Sharrif talked to us the next day and said Ohio State is great and all, but Coach Meyer said he would DIE for me. That's pretty intense. From that day on Sharrif mainly kept to himself. But that was the turning point in my eyes."

This story appeared on a South Carolina Blog when it was passed around the blogosphere. A retort was immediately issued via a Florida message board.

The problem with these reports is that credibility is becoming harder and harder to establish within the college ranks. We've all been bombarded with Lane Kiffins, Brian Kelleys, Urban Meyers, etc. who are more worried about their next job as opposed to what they currently have on their plate.

I am so glad that Wilkins didn't come to PSU. As a recruit, he was considered ours to lose. It is funny how in a number of cases like his, we narrowly missed out on highly rated prospects only to find out later we were better off without them.

If I was a football player and in shape and someone did that to me I'd kick his ass.

Yep. Now I've only been to Gainesville once but I didn't get the same vibe on the issue there that I did in upstate South Carolina. I think that's why many people rolled their eyes when Urban tried that angle.

The game day crew had a bit on that redneck eating hotdogs with his mouth open and mustard all over his face. They said they loved the way he played angry.

I suspect groping has been part of NFL and college football in the pile almost since the sport was invented.

Players do absolutely anything they can to gain a psychological advantage.

But always in the pile. This kid's mistake was to do it openly in front of a camera.
