Cleveland – stayed in the Tremont section – AirBNB and it couldn’t have been better. Less than 5 minutes to the east parking garage. No traffic going in or out (arriving 30 minutes before doors opened) – great deal and I owe it all to Pointingdogsrule! Random thoughts:
- Thoroughly enjoyed sitting beside Nick Lee’s Aunt/Uncle. Good stories and some insight of the graciousness of all the wrestler’s parents. Additionally, we called the wrestle back for Nick as well - although I was leery about the Jack match. Solid 141 for the next two years (if not 3).
- Thought the NCstate coach showed class with the Shaq equipment penalty. He did give the neutral sign to his wrestler.
- tOSU kids were always classy. Really noticed it when you were rooting for their opponent. However, I personally don’t like how their ordained minister coach acts in the corner or on the camera. Too bad.
- Spencer – why don’t we have him! Tired of the “I’m a Jersey kid” rap. Yianni will go to 149 sometime in his career. Meredith is a good ambassador for the sport. Zahid almost went down Friday night but he won it in the end. I too wonder how he makes weight!
- Need to see the Keener second pin – to see if he was truly OB. I’m sure it’s not the way he wanted to go out. Nick L had a fantastic tourney and shows he can hang with the best of them. Shaq needed some more energy in the 3rd and he could have been in the finals. NN – wish he had more offense on his feet –get him hooked up into the Greco club J. Zain – went after the win. Great champion. Nolf – so happy we get one more year! Cenzo – makes wrestling truly fun. I think he did a great job taking everything away from IMAR. Mark – is always going to wrestle ‘his’ style which is domineering from a technical perspective. Great champion. Bo – everything has already been said. I do have to hand it to Nolf though…. He had me wondering what was going on by not coming to the mat early. Bet he was laughing at all of us!
- Venue: funny seeing the RU fan passed out in the seating/lounge area before the finals started. They couldn’t wake him. Cool running into some longtime fans from Bells landing (outside of my hometown). Whoever gets this venue needs to understand that they have 18k+ captive for three days… it is not a one and done scenario. Food was good but had to be timely. Unsure how Pitt will handle the onslaught.
Next year - I predict Berge filling in for Zain and scoring points for PSU. No idea what will be going on with the first 3 weights but that should make the Scuffle interesting!
