Clyde Frantz RIP

I just received an email from a friend that included a link to an obituary posted this past summer in the Albuquerque Journal. Evidently Clyde Frantz passed away some time around June 2016. I never saw anything posted either here or on the Penn State Wrestling web site. My apologies if I missed something and am just posting old news.

Did not see this earlier.

Sad news. One of Penn State's big stars late 60's. Teammate of Matter and Lorenzo. IMO, a more explosive and exciting wrestler than either of these NC's (with respect, of course). Much like today, these three had pinning contests and an internal rivalry. Great matchups with Lehigh in those days. Damn.

Does anyone know what Clyde died from? The article didn't say. I remember Clyde from college days--a much feared wrestler. Remember running into him in Phila when he was in PT school. If I'm not mistaken, Clyde beat Andy Matter Clyde's senior year of HS in state finals (it was Andy's Jr year). Clyde was a real credit to PSU wrestling. Came in 3rd one year I believe.

You're memory is accurate. Frantz beat Matter in the PIAA finals in 1967. I was there. I think that the score was 8-0.

No info about what caused his death.
