Coach Brands American Blood

Yes...nice speech. I never really cared much for the Brands brothers, that is, until the last couple of years or so. And even more so now that I got FloPro and got a much closer look at the way they go about life and wrestling through the documentaries and video interviews. I'll admit, they aren't quite like they seem on the surface and I've grown to not only respect them but genuinely like those guys.

He spoke a bit about Cael setting the bar high and eluded to Iowa not keeping up. With Cael and the PSU program being perceived by fans and recruits as a "fun" atmosphere to be around, I think the Brands bros had to adapt. They needed to work on their image a bit and put themselves out there more to try to show recruits that we are not just some hardasses that are only about winning. They've always truly cared for their athletes but maybe people (most importantly the kids they tried to recruit) didn't know that because until recently you didn't get to see that side of them very much.

All that being said, I still love to see them lose. They are Iowa after all... Lol

I like the way this thread is headed. Flo is indeed doing some quality work lately. Its making my off-season go by faster.

Tom and Terry are great guys. Always have been. Always will be. My hero's!

Happy 4th everyone! Cheers!

I agree with everything said on this thread regarding the Brands brothers. One thing I truly admire about them is their intensity and approach. I like when he said "we don't make predictions in Iowa City." Their mindset and intensity levels are awesome and unmatched.

As Turk pointed out, Flo is doing an amazing job keeping the sport at the forefront with the documenteries, interviews, & routine updates on all things wrestling, especially the recruiting process.

Enjoy the 4th fellas!!!

They really do seem like some great guys but I didn't always feel that way. I'll be honest, there was a time I felt I wouldn't want my boys to wrestle for them if given a choice. There's nothing wrong with being driven to win so don't get me wrong here but the perception I had was winning was everything to them. I'd see maches where wrestlers would walk off the mat after defeat with their heads down and got a sense that the boys were ashamed to even look at their coach. We didn't really know how they were with their boys other than what we saw on tv or clips of matches here and there.

You're right, Flo does a fantastic job although they are killing us with all the Hawkeye content lately. Lol. I seem to remember in the past where Iowa fans had a problem with Flo and even accused Willie of trying to direct recruits to PSU. In my opinion, a lot of the content they've put out lately though may have helped Iowa in recruiting. It surely couldn't have hurt. Kids and their parents may have been awaken (much like myself) to what the "real" Brands brothers are all about. I know I was...

I hope Flo has some more behind the scenes training videos/interviews pre-Olympics. Can't get enough of it! I'm ready for Rio!

Brands is / are good for wrestling, I have always believed this. Thanks for linking.

I agree with this. I think that in times past they have gotten a bit of a bad reputation for some matside behavior (I think Terry more than Tom). But they're great for wrestling. I love Tom's interviews--very down-to-earth with substantive answers usually. I love the way he and Cael were able to work out an "out-of-conference" dual a couple of years ago. The PSU-Iowa rivalry is great for wrestling, and I look forward to seeing it continue!

Does anyone know if they'll wrestle this upcoming season?

I'll echo the comments above: the Brands brothers are genuine, passionate, good for USA and college wrestling, and worthy competitors and partners.

And subtle as a punch in the mouth. "Communist society" cracked me up.

Tom Brands is as anti-communist as they get. He tells the truth way too much to be a communist.
