Coach Casey Pipeline

I once asked Cael if his kids wrestled and he said something like “yes but Casey’s are the ones we want”…
it is interesting that there isn't a lot said about Cael's kids, let along wrestling.

I think only one of Cael's boys is still wrestling (as a ~12yo). Teag is good, but not (yet) a world beater--he qualified for PJW States, but I think he went 0-2. Nice kid though, of course. It's gotta be super tough to be Son-of-GOAT. I think Cael is handling it as well as he can. I guess Jojo Smith can speak to it some too.

lil’ Sanderson is a stud, don’t put too much stock in youth results. Generally I see a more patient and relaxed approach with college wrestlers/coaches and their kids compared with the testosterone induced screaming meathead who thinks his family’s reputation is at stake every time their 6yr old takes the mat. Not hard to tell which method is likely to bring out the best in the kid.

Much lesser scale, but many of the local HS coaches are the best parents to work with in my area (all of our club parents are pretty awesome, to be honest). But the dads who have the best credentials have typically been some of the calmest, least concerned about results and "pushing".

I had the pleasure of coaching a D1 AA's kid in my very early days of coaching. He had 0 reason to trust me or my coaching. He was nothing but respectful and mentoring, really. The only time I ever heard a single thing other than "thank you" was his kid's junior year at a FS regional... Myself and my old HS coach were cornering his kid against a prior state placewinner/state champ type. Less than :30 to go, and they don't have the "criteria line" like is so available now... We think we're winning. Opposing coach (also a D1 AA, pretty sure) thinks they're losing. Opponent takes a bad attack and we score a go-behind... He gets a call from dad 20min later... "You realize you were losing right?" Got him with the old double reverse psychology on that one 😂

In my world, Tara is the super nice lady who takes tons of really nice DSLR photos of all the elementary school/PTO events and shares with the parents. Unless one of her kids is on the mat, then, the cold-blooded killer instincts come to the fore (but not at all in that obnoxious wrestling mom trope).

For sure! I didn’t intend to disparage his abilities at all. He’s better than just about, but not all, wrestlers his age in PA. The ceiling isn’t in sight, that’s for sure. What I like is that he tries to score a lot. Wonder where that comes from.
