Colt McCoy...

I haven't kept close track of McCoy, so I'm a tad surprised to learn that they both play for the Arizona Cardinals. I understand the impulse to compare them. But keep in mind that McCoy is 36 and McSorley is 27. Nine years younger. Unless McCoy is the next coming of Tom Brady (which I doubt), he'll be out of the equation pretty soon. Perhaps his next injury. The don't say NFL stands for "Not For Long" without good reason.

McCoy's been in the league 12 years and is 11-24 or something like that as a starter. He won everything imaginable in college other than the Hypesman. Never fails to show how college success as a qb translates to pro success. Yet he had a nice long career holding a clipboard so good for him. If he starts the rest of the year he's going to be looking up at the lights a lot.

Well, this issue has become more relevant, now that there's confirmation of Kyler Murray's ACL injury, which will sideline him out for the rest of this season. My guess is that the job is McCoy's to lose. But you never know how things will turn out. I'm pretty sure no one thought Brock Purdy would be starting, much less killing it, for the 49ers at this point.

Some people think anyone could do well in SF's offense.

In a word yes. Trace is a practice player, nothing more.
I don't even understand the question. McCoy's a great backup and has been for about a decade now. A starter--no. But Trace isn't either--Trace is a nice third guy to have on a roster because he can also help your defense prepare for mobile QBs in practice.

Exactly, he is a practice player.

...really? That much better than Trace?
he's kind of bounced around and isn't a great QB, clearly. But at this point, you can plug him into just about any offense and with his experience, won't embarrass you. He's been fortunate to get the NFL experience. he's also a great clubhouse and sideline player. He'll be a good coach in five years.
