My sincere congratulations to President-elect Donald Trump for his election victory. I wish him the best of success as President.
I still consider him a buffoon who is temperamentally unfit for the job. Nevertheless, the voters have spoken. Hillary may have won the popular vote, but Trump won the election fair and square with a truly impressive sweep of the battleground states (I think Hillary won Virginia and maybe New Hampshire, and that was about it). Trump doggedly pursued a strategy of change, and it obviously resonated with millions of blue collar white voters who felt left out and hated the existing D.C. power structure.
Democrats now need to suck it up and do what Hillary said this morning; honor the American tradition of respecting the outcome of elections and the peaceful transition of power. They need to give Trump a chance. I hope Trump succeeds, because his success will likely mean the country's success. I hope he succeeds, but that does not mean I believe he will succeed. He has the temperament of a third grader, having insulted and alienated most of the leading members of his own party, and having cried incessantly about the system being "rigged" against him. I hope he is able to put that stuff behind him and become the kind of person who can actually govern. Governing is a lot harder than campaigning. To date, he has given us a steady diet of slogans; now we need to see some actual plans.
