Spoke with an old friend yesterday, he is a UNC grad and was a booster. Told me several years ago received a call from someone at PSU, at the time UNC was looking for a head football coach. Was asked if an interview could be arranged for a PSU defensive coordinator, that interview took place in NYC. Obviously, no hire!!

You'll have to narrow down "several years ago" for us.
Let me make it easy, Sandusky interviewed for the NC Head Football Coach spot, interview was conducted in NYC. Never went past first interview, comes from former NC booster who was part of the selection committee. Funny, he reflects now, what if they hired Sandusky based on his initial referral. Have known the source 50 years, I trust the source,

As disgusting as it is the type this, Jerry was arguably the best DC in college football for around 15 years. He was instrumental in coaching the guys that made Penn State Linebacker U. It’s really not surprising he had some head coach interviews over the years.

Now I’ll go back to trying to forget the guy ever existed.

Sports Illustrated, which was the gold standard of sport journalism, used to have a multi-page feature on a sports figure each month. The feature was typically over ten pages. They did a massive feature on JS in 1999. he was considered the father of the zone blitz.
