Could Minnesota be 8-0 when we play them?

I don’t see it as implausible. Nebraska will likely be their toughest game before us.

Could be interesting.

its possible...they're not a bad team....good running backs and receivers

They are barely an average team:

Week one: they needed a comeback to beat South Dakota State by 7.

Week 2: they beat Fresno State by 3 in 2OT.

Week 3: a three point win over Georgia...........
Southern

They are one of the most fortunate teams in college football this year. Today Purdue lost Moore and their QB on the same play early in the first quarter. I guess it is possible the witch doctor they are employing to hex their opponents sacrifices enough chickens to get them into the game with us at 8-0. That would be good for us, because beating an 8-0 team ranked in the top 15 by fifty would look good on our resume.

extremely lucky team. their schedule is backloaded with Wisconsin the last game. OSU would boat race them by 50 pts. they don't play MSU, UM or OSU. it is always harder to beat a team that is unbeaten and thinks they are better than they are. I would prefer that they lose a couple games before we play them, so they know who they really are.

I don't disagree with your point but South Dakota State is one of the best 2-3 FCS teams. That's a better win than beating many FBS teams. Fresno State lost to USC and Minnesota by a score. We'll see how good they are in MWC play. Georgia Southern isn't good so there's no logic behind that.

At the end of the day a win is a win. Hopefully they are 8-0 when we play them. Build that resume. Just like I hope Pitt wins out. I don't care at all about Pitt but I care about how it impacts Penn State.

85' PSU? I'd gladly take that! Yes as a Gopher fan, these wins have made me feel uncomfortable, but the team keeps finding a way to win. Purdue was a strange game, again the team found a way to hold on and win. With each win, the team appears to gain confidence. Hopefully that will help this team into a 2-2 split or better(forgot to add in the last four games-We have a back loaded schedule). Right now I'd say that "I'd rather be lucky than good" applies here.

We do have a decent QB and receiver corps

I forgot to add that the schedule is back loaded.I'd be very happy if two of the last four were victories, and those wins were Iowa, and Wisconsin.

We will be their Super Bowl.
PSU could very well be the best team we face all season. With that said, that would very much be our Superbowl. The fanbase "dislikes" Iowa, and Wisconsin so much that those could be our Superbowls instead.

Makes sense. I don't sense any mutual animosity between Penn State and Minnesota........the 1999 game notwithstanding. Part of me still wants to see the entire state of Minnesota burned to the ground for what Minny put us through that day, but I've since gotten over it :)

But, if they go into that game 8-0 and we come into that game 7-1 or 8-0 (will be really tough given the @ Iowa, Michigan, and @ Michigan State games leading up to it), then I'd expect quite an atmosphere.

I think Clemson is the luckiest team. Just about every year the past few honestly...

That was Joe's fault...:D Seriously Glen Mason (Yes a former Buckeye) had the upmost respect for Penn State. In 97' Minnesota kept the score close and had a snowballs chance of winning that game. Who came to speak to the Minnesota team in a very complimentary fashion after the game? You guessed it. Joe Paterno.

Many of us Gopher fans that followed the team during that era. Have had great respect for Joe Paterno, and Penn State since then.

Just wish our teams played for a better looking trophy;)

Honestly I hope Minnesota keeps on winning. I was thinking about this and posted in another thread. You have to respect teams who find a way to win and you can only play the teams on their schedule. It seems like Fleck is a good guy and I like Minny fans a hell of lot more than Iowa fans. It would be cool if they rose up and challenged the West and brought some balance to the Big. Fleck can coach, and they will undoubtedly improve, but they don’t have the team speed to beat us this year. Beating an 8-0 Minny team would be a great notch on our belt.

Minn is one of those teams that always start out good, get rated, and then rapidly fade away. Won't be 8-0.
History proves you correct, but this team feels different. I do have my doubts about the last four games, but I do think we have more than a punchers chance against: Illinois, Nebraska, Rutgers, and Maryland. Only Rutgers is on the road. The thing about all of these teams is that they have probably circled us as a win for them, so it won't be easy. However it is currently a possibility.

My recollection was Minny got screwed in that 97 game by a rare bad call that went PSUs way. Fumble if I remember correctly....

Unfortunately I wholeheartedly agree that PSU looks to be a sure loss. If we get to 8-0 and lose this game, we would still would be in the hunt for a Bigten west bid. Wisconsin and Iowa are our rivals, and Northwestern is struggling on offense, so we could sneak out two wins.

Ill and Neb will be good tests for you. It would be nice to see Minn win them both as is always nice to see teams other than the perennial powers do well. Except of course for Penn State.......;)

Going 8-0 would have a tremendous impact on the school and its surrounds, spiritually and financially.

I have no problem rooting for Minnesota until they play PSU. Playing at home they can beat Nebraska. But PSU, at Iowa, at Northwestern, Wisconsin is about as brutal a November as they can get without having to play Ohio State.

I do not remember all of the details of the game. What I do remember is coach Paterno addressing the team (Gophers). What other coach would do that? Many believe that Coaches words inspired the underclassmen on that team.

Minny doesn't play Wisconsin? Seems like a natural seasonal opponent.
Corrected: Minny and Wisconsin do play at the end of the season. Could be a very good game.

Yes. Currently Wisconsin is our rivalry week game. One of the most played rivalries in FBS football. Right now, our overall series record is dead even.

An undefeated PSU facing Minnesota late season... what could go wrong?!?!?!

There was a game in the 2000s somewhere that Minny might have been screwed on a 4th down PI call. I don't remember it being blatantly wrong like UM and OSU always benefit from, but it was pretty questionable and allowed PSU to win the game.

I certainly hope they’re 8-0. I was hoping for Maryland to beat Temple so they would have been a ranked opponent going into Friday’s thumping, and I hope for the same with Minnesota.

Minnesota hasn't faced a tough team yet, but somehow they've had 4 tough games

Trust me on this, Rutgers has absolutely no one circled as a win.

They play Maryland next week at home before a bye week. Then they play us in MN.

I imagine they will be 8-0.

the schedule has been very kind to them. But undefeated at this point in the season is not likely what most predicted.

I don't know how good they are, as I haven't seen them play. But if they are 7-0 I doubt that they suck.
