Podcast Could Penn State pluck an NFL Assistant for the DC Spot?

I would have zero problems with plucking a coach from a lesser conference like the MAC or even the Sunbelt. Taking a coach from a lesser conference is not like gambling on a player who hasn't played against great competition. For Coordinators/coaches most of the challenges are on paper/film and drawing it up all of that is relative. For players not so much. So, if the guy you mentioned is good at what he does go get him assuming you can't get those at the top of your list. Just my opinion.

I'm really beginning to wander what's going to happen here. Can't mess this up with all of this talent and a 25 run.
I'm not overly worried about the defense. The assistants are strong and they build a nice defense. There's still good options. The only person that we missed out on that is disappointing in Lynn.

Might as well give it to Connor though if it's not a top tier NFL assistant.

I just get a little concerned with Connor as an analyst to DC. Not saying it can't work, but Wes Goodwin did that with Clemson the last 2 seasons. 🤷

It's not ideal and risky for sure but it keeps everyone else in their current roles and we know he can call defenses. I'm open to anything here especially after ruling out Golden. That would have just been a nightmare. Hope he does well in Cincy though.

I do believe getting a high level, experienced OC like AK last year was way more important than experience with a DC for next year. Could be wrong but how I feel. Just way more confidence with the defensive staff

How about he coaches the LB's first.
Why? Didn't Michael Vick get a HC role after one season (5 years ago) as an analyst in the Alliance of America (or whatever) league?
Connor has a ton of playing experience and called defensive plays in the NFL while on the field. He's 100% fine for that role.
There's no more risk with him than Poindexter

Because you can't argue it?
You realize guys have gone from position coach (or no coaching) to HC, right?
You get caught up in random ideas then double down on them
I'm not saying hire Connor but if Poindexter isn't interested in being a DC (or even if he is) Connor should be in the discussion if it's an internal hire.
Connor was also a DC at Widener were he called plays for 4 years...and was a HS HC but, yeah, calling defensive plays, like he did while playing in Carolina, would be impossible for him

This is PSU not Delaware State. End of debate.

It doesn't end the debate. Did Tom Bradley have prior DC experience before he took that role?
You're not making any sense--you start by saying he never called plays but he has
Pick a reason other than you like someone better
"end of debate"--because you were wrong and know it

Right no play calling experience--none
That's my point--thanks for needing wiki to know it

He was a PSU coach for 20 years before being DC. How long has Connor been coaching? Tf?
No one would wait 20 years in this era with Connor's pedigree
Connor has plenty of experience at the HS and college level before even mentioning his NFL career
Connor would have no problem being the leader of the defense or calling plays
Again, this isn't saying they should hire him but he'd be fine--how good, like Poindexter or anyone else, will only be know in time
Hell, Yurcich had a ton of experience--how'd that work out?
