Cowherd gone from espn?

The problem with all of these people on ESPN, or non-sports TV news people, is when they become the story as opposed to reporting on the story. I don't need anyone to tell me what to think, even if they agree with me. Report the freaking news and keep your opinion to yourself. These egomaniacs are not journalists, they are entertainers.

Unfortunately, 90% of media personalities are exactly what you described.

Editorialization is at nearly every news outlet and every "reporter"......and the public is too dumb to care.

ESPN has orders to cut 100M in costs next year. Hopefully this is just the start of dropping overpriced and useless talent. I could live a happy life is I never see a sideline reporter, or a 4 person studio show, again.

Word is ESPN made every effort to keep Cowherd and their offer was very competitive. Scarier is that Fox Sports's offer was better. Still, will be interesting to see what Cowherd does for Fox Sports - his wheelhouse is talk radio, not being in front of the camera (harder to use his fake radio voice there). ESPN, IMO, has a much better, more robust radio presence than Fox does, so I guess we'll see. Or not - I want to punch myself in the face every time I catch myself listening to sports talk radio. It's. The. Worst.

I know alot of people don't like him, but there is a list ahead of him at ESPN IMO. His PSU stuff was over the top, but heard alot of that was cause his intern was a PSU student and he had another person on his stuff that was a PSU alumnus, so he was taking shots at them.

I do think he doesn't do a bad job. He is alot better then Mike and Mike.

Minority opinion on this board - but I like Cowherd more than most anybody at ESPN. That's sort of a back-handed compliment, but at least Cowherd has a unique take on things and covers some off-the-beaten-path topics.

Yes, he's a bomb-thrower and yes, he tweaks and prods and tries to piss people off. But - I think he's smarter and more interesting than most of their talking heads. I used to like Mike &Mike. I'm not sure if I got older and crankier or if they got worse...and lazy. It seems that they pick (or are assigned) one single topic each day and they will talk about that same topic, with very little deviation, for four straight hours. They talked for a solid week about Deandre Jordan's contract situation. I find myself switching to Steve Czaban, available on XM...but even he has been annoying with his way-too-frequent bashing of all things ESPN, which sounds a lot like jealousy.

Maybe I'll go back to music.

ESPN is in trouble with their parent company, Disney. They are starting to lose money. They need to get cut costs and badly. There has been a lot about this in the news lately, with Disney not happy about the ESPN situation. The cord cutting that is going on is starting to really hurt and cable companies, I think, might start to realize that they are in big trouble. They can't continue to price gauge and expect people to keep paying.

espn gets rid of Mark May;now kthat would make be happy, very happy!

The article says:

But, the timing will leave a gaping hole in ESPN Radio’s weekday lineup and has broader implications about where some things are going both in Bristol — few will forget the great talent exodus of 2015 at ESPN, which has seen the network lose other outspoken voices in Bill Simmons and Keith Olbermann — and in general sports media.

Exactly where is the great talent exodus?

Someone stated it before; ESPN often puts themselves first and the sports second. In the Soccer thread, I didn't say it, but feel this is a big problem for main-stream sports in the USA as well. Do I really want my young son or daughter being exposed to some of the ESPN demi-gods like A-Rod, Steven A. Smith, and giving awards to Caitlyn Jenner (not that there's anything wrong with it but it certainly takes some explaining for a 9 year old).

If I was Disney, I'd create an ESPN - Clean that put sports again, first and only. I don't want to see a former NFL WR who was a drug addict, the latest on contract negotiations, Ray Rice cold-cocking his GF, and so forth. And, as top sports events get moved back later and later into the night, major league sports may likely erode for the younger generation (who gets a ton of Lacrosse and Soccer and x-games without some of the background stupidity).

I have passing interest in watching Boise play Utah late on Saturday night when surfing channels after the wife goes to bed. Other than that, I only want to watch PSU and a handful of national games. I can do that on network TV and the B1G channel.

If they moved ESPN up into the next tier of pay for channels, I am done with them.

It's the age of the talking head propagandist. What really pisses me off is, the money for everything and everybody you see on TV and even the thousands behind the scenes comes out of our pockets via the sponsors. TV is the biggest cause of infllation ever. And now the internet is gouging us.

Great. They will probably end up coming here and posting BS like most of the *******s here.

I had heard about Cowherd for years but only started really tuning into him during hoops seasons beginning a couple of years ago. I'm glad I did. I think he's great! My jokingly wife calls him "Mr. Analogy" because he's always relating a sports topic to something in real life such as dating, raising children, grocery shopping or whatever.

I will definitely follow him to wherever he goes next.

I wonder how Phyllis from Alabama feels about this news?

I have given it up. Started back in Jan and really haven't missed it. It all started over another horrible comment Angelo made on WIP. I now listen to CNN or Opie Radio on the drive to work, and other XM stations on the way home.
