Cracks me up how people are critical of PSU OL on here and praise Wisco's OL when....

.....Wisco's average gain per carry was 3.0 ypc, which sucks and isn't appreciably different than PSU's 2.8 ypc in the game. Wisconsin's running game was particularly crappy inside the redzone where they were utterly defeated by the PSU front 7 consistently throughout the game.

Meanwhile, these same posters ignore the fact that Wisconsin's OL sucked in protecting Mertz especially relative to PSU's passing game. Wisconsin's OL gave up multiple sacks, 2 Intentional Grounding Penalties and it would have been far worse if the b1g clowns hadn't allowed Wisconsin's OL to illegally Hold on an every-play basis! Wisconsin's passing game was ridiculously bad - I think their longest play from scrimmage was only like 20 yards in passing game. Wisconsin's average gain per catch was only 8 yards per reception (185 yards on 22 receptions), 0 TD Passes and Mertz threw 2 INTs (and it should have been 3 but PSU LB dropped one he had in his hands in 1H) - meanwhile, PSU's average gain per reception was 14 yards per catch (247 yards on 18 receptions), 1 TD Pass and 0 INTs!

The difference in the game was PSU's passing game versus the complete ineffectiveness (actually a liability) of Wisconsin's Passing Game combined with the complete ineffectiveness of Wisconsin's run game in the Redzone. How either of those things point to superior OL play out of Wisconsin is quite a mystery to me. Any knowledgable football person will tell you that Wisconsin's OL was badly outplayed by the PSU Defense -- what's that tell you about the biggest loudmouths on this board???

We were not as all in to stop the run as Wisconsin was to stopping ours. They were blitzing repeatedly to stop the run and put extra guys in the box. They were doing more to confuse our O-line with blitz packages than we did to confuse theirs. The only difference was that their backs found a crease every now and then for a good 7 - 10 yard gain while, our backs were being stuffed in the middle. Our O-line has to get better, but it was definitely a learning experience.

On our first pass play that resulted in a sack, Wisconsin ran a stunt between the D end and tackle where Whigan blocked Walker while Walker was switching men and Whigan was not. It was not pretty but shows first game issues for stuff that is difficult to replicate in practice environment.

Sorry Champ, but Wisconsin's defense was selling out to stop the run and ultimately paid for it in the passing game. Beyond what PSU accomplished in the passing game - Clifford missed a wide-open #5 running free behind Wisconsin Defense 2 other times that would have been TDs.

You claiming that they occassionally had good runs doesn't remotely outweigh their overall putrid average yards per carry of 3.0 yards. Wisconsin's running game was completely shut down in the redzone repeatedly - including on the blocked FG (oh yea, the blocked FG is another major FAIL of Wisconsin OL versus PSU D.). Only an ignoramus would argue that the Wisconsin OL outplayed the PSU D - their statistics utterly sucked (as in well below average) in both the run and pass game.

I was kinda agreeing with you.
