UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Fans attending football games will, for the first time, have access to Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream in Beaver Stadium when the Nittany Lions kick off their season on Sept. 2.
Concession stands at the stadium will feature a half dozen flavors of Creamery ice cream in pint-sized containers. Until this season, Creamery ice cream was only available in the Mount Nittany Club section during games.
“We get a lot of people asking whether they can buy ice cream at our stands, and until now, we’ve always had to tell them to just go to the Creamery,” said Eric Ebeling, athletics concessions manager.
Fans will be able to purchase pints of vanilla, chocolate, Death by Chocolate, chocolate chip cookie dough, cookies n’ cream and Peachy Paterno at the stadium.
“We’ve known for a while that our customers would appreciate the convenience of buying ice cream directly at the stadium, and we’re very excited to make that a reality this fall,” said Jim Brown, Creamery assistant manager.
Brown added that making ice cream available at Beaver Stadium may help alleviate the crowd size at the Creamery’s store in the Rodney Erickson Food Science Building, where lines may stretch out the front doors and sometimes around the side of the building.
“It’s sort of a tradition to stand in that line,” Brown said. “But not everyone has the time or wants to do that for every football game. So we’re hoping that this will mean that everyone who wants our ice cream can get it every time they come to campus.”
The move to bring ice cream pints to the stadium is part of a larger effort to expand availability of the Creamery’s products. Last year, the Creamery launched a new e-commerce website and plans are in place to make the pints available on the website and at Commonwealth Campuses by next year.
Tom Davis, Creamery manager, said he also plans to expand the number of flavors available in pint containers from the initial six to about 25 by early spring next year.

Great news. I remember being able to buy it last year at a booth outside of the BJC, but inside the stadium is much better. Could you imagine if they had the vendors come around the stands? They will need wider seats!

They have always had a limited selection in the club area, pre-packaged. Some flavors that they have had in the past ... Peachy Paterno, Alumni Swirl, Vanilla.

Does the ice cream or bottled water sell out first? Forget marshmallows, those lids are going to make great frisbees.

Hopefully this ultimately cuts down the lines at the creamery on football weekends as well.
As the quote in the article said, standing in line had become sort of a "tradition". Sure, but it's not good type of tradition. A few decades ago it was a tradition to stand in long lines for registration. Some traditions are made to be broken. :)

It took 4 assistant athletic directors to come up with this idea, despite many of us saying it for years.

Now if they just put Joe's statue in the stadium by the tunnel to lead the team into the field.

Its about freaking time. Geesh this was a no brainer like 20 years ago.
IIRC there used to be a small booth by BJC where you could get a couple flavors but I haven't even seen that booth for a long time.

I've always wondered why this never happened before. Seems like a no-brainer. My other thought is to have some collection boxes for THON, at least at the Blue/White game.

In recent history, how successfully has this university executed on "no-brainers?"

We're talking ice cream, right?

Good morning creampuff, Creamery ice cream is the menu for today.

Sports Illustrated Ranks Keeney Beany Chocolate 19th-Best College Town
By Mary Frances Pillion on August 14, 2017 at 8:08 pm Student Life

Andy Staples of Sports Illustrated ranked the Creamery’s Keeney Beany Chocolate No. 19 on his list of the 25 best college town meals in America.

Although Staples admitted that every flavor at the Creamery is great, he singled out Keeney Beany for its interesting use of vanilla bean mixed with chocolate chips. Other Big Ten staples on the list include:

No. 2 — “The Full Leaded Jacket,” a dish combining chili and cinnamon rolls at Leadbelly in Lincoln, Neb.

No. 11 — The deep fried double cheeseburger at Joe’s Gizzard City in Potterville, Mich. — a suburb of East Lansing.

No. 16 — Biercamp jerky in Ann Arbor, Mich.

No. 20 — The deep fried biscuits at Squealers Award Winning Barbecue in Mooresville, Ind. — 35 miles from Bloomington.

Penn State announced Monday it will serve select pints of Creamery ice cream at Beaver Stadium concession stands for the first time this season.

Staples previously worked for the Associated Press, which is responsible for ranking the nation’s top 25 college football teams each fall in its weekly poll. After giving up this position, Staples decided to embark on a quest he says is “far more controversial than any college football ranking I’ve ever done.”

So, he set out to rank the 25 best college town dishes in America. What makes a college town you may ask? Well, his rule was that the town must have a major university and a population of less than 500,000. Basically, the town must exist for the university.

Even though some may not consider ice cream a meal (they’re wrong), Keeney Beany is ranked alongside dishes like brisket, burgers, and mac and cheese.
