Very sad news. Curly was one of only two wrestlers to win an NCAA title and a Super Bowl.

If memory serves me, I think he beat Mike Reid for the Wrestling title.

Definitely not Reid as he was never a wrestling AA. Grammy Winner though.

Memory did not serve me. So I broke down and googled it. Mike's last match was against that other '67 nose tackle Granville Liggins. Thanks for addressing this long standing misconception.

…I saw Curly Culp win his NCAA wrestling title in 1967 at Kent State …
…It was Easter weekend … I took my young sons who were 9 and 7 with me…they sang in our church boys choir and my wife said we had to be back in time for Easter sunrise service at 7 AM…
…when Curly’s bout finished we bolted out the gym door to our station wagon in the nearby parking lot and my sons jumped in the back and
curled up in their sleeping bags while I drove all night back to Bethlehem, arriving in time for the service…
…it was an interesting “guys’ trip”…👏👏👏
