Looks like Cutch is a dual sport athlete. He tweeted that he'll be joining the baseball team this spring. Congrats to him. Says a lot about his athleticism and work ethic. On the flip side, what does it say about the state of PSU baseball?

Cutch is a good athlete. Constantly being rated the "best in the room" at dodgeball by those that matter...his fellow team-mates.

My memory's fading a bit, I think it was B1G's last year...the guys were playing baseball (more like whiffle-ball), and Cutch was catching. The batter hit a short fly, not very long, and Cutch lunged out of his catcher's stoop, ran, dove and caught the ball in his bare hand just before it hit the mat.

he quit baseball to focus on wrestling in HS. Here is a quick hitter on this

Hes an athlete not just a wrestler. Oh and we'll probably call him Dr. someday.

D@mn culture problems.........

PS- I think he can make the team and Im so happy he is able to maximize his PSU experience beyond the norm.

Thanks dunk...know the man well, and I'm happy to say that beyond the accomplishments already in his young life, and his extremely bright future, what sets him apart are the intangibles...he's an extraordinary human being, a great role model for everyone in the wrestling room, coaches included!!

you're pathetic dude
i could be wrong but I think JT may have been calling attention to the other teams fans that kept this narrative up last year. not that he was taking a swing at Matt.

Again could be wrong but more often than not the slights on here are more at things other boards say, not at our guys.

Or quoting MM himself from the whiteboard wars he and Cenzo did.;)

I was concerned this was either:
A. Cutch looking to transfer and needing a waiver
OR B. A drunken Keanu Reeves was coming on staff to exclusively coach Cutch, and that he'd have ear-buds implanted on his headphones so he only listened to Big Poppa by The Notorious B.I.G.

But hell yeah, swing that bat, bro.

Ahhh, the value of a well-placed winkie face ;). Works to waylay any drama caused by misunderstanding one's intentions (at least for all but one poster on this forum ;)).

I think it's great he'll look to play baseball in the spring...why can't a wrestler participate in multiple sports? Sometimes wrestlers get pigeon holed (some rightfully so) but many very good wrestlers are very good in multiple sports (modestly speaking). Hope to see him kick ass on the mat and diamond.

I believe it. Cutch's only move is diving at his opponent ankles, so i can see him being an exceptional baseball infielder.

Must have learned that from the guy that can't coach but wins National Championships. All he could ever do was ankle pick......;-)

I'm not throwing shade on McCutcheon's baseball talents, but the baseball team usually plays its first games in mid-February. I'm sure they start training well before that. They're accepting a fifth-year senior who has never played before and will miss the first five weeks of the season?

He's a catcher, right?

Lots of teams would love to have an extra body behind the plate for doubleheaders, runaway games, extra innings, etc. If nothing else.

especially one that costs them nothing but a seat on the bus.

Which is exactly why very few college athletes compete in multiple sports, the seasons overlap quite a bit. That said, why wouldn't the baseball team want him if the coaches think he can contribute to the team? It's not like he will take a spot from someone else.

Absolutely, unequivocally one of the MOST underrated films of all time. Poor, G-Baby...

Sounds like a bullpen catcher. If he is not getting ready now for the season and has that kind of rust on him there is no way he can compete. They'll be midway through the season before he can even swing a bat.

I played three sports my sophomore year of college and decided it was way too much to undertake. I had to drop one. But yeah, even at the D3 level, the sports overlapped each other and you were way behind in the new sport when you joined the team and practices.

From what I've been told, he's practiced with the team in the past... so it's not like he hasn't picked up a bat in years. Still... at the D1 level, it's quite impressive.

Yes, it would be impressive. He'll be competing with kids who have been concentrating solely on baseball, scholarship athletes and walk-ons. Not sure how many roster spots baseball is allowed, or how he'll get a chance to "show his stuff" to the baseball coaches while working on his "leg dive" in February .;) Not to mention that these young men tend to come out of BIGs and NCAA'S a little banged up. Hey, I hope he pulls it off. Seems like a great, and of course talented kid.

Baseball is only allowed 35 roster spots by the NCAA (I believe baseball is the only sport with such a maximum at all), FYI.

Clearly he is qualified to join the PSU baseball team.
