What are the chances this young man can step in immediately next season and be a force at DE? Losing AK and Luketa certainly opens things up and we haven’t heard much, nor do I expect to, about Isaac’s recovery status and being 100% next year. Would be awesome to see this young man be a star right away. Thoughts?

If he plays one position then I say yes. If they bounce him around at 2 or 3 positions then get ready for another flop.

It would seem reasonable that Isaac is back and starting in 2022 given that his injury occurred before the beginning of the 2021 season (or earlier??), and if Tarburton comes back he also likely starts. But as for the backups to fill a 4-5 DE rotation, it will be interesting to see how that shakes out.

Vilbert who will be a redshirt Jr in 2022 got playing time this season and seemed somewhat improved from his RS-Fr season of 2020. Fisher (RS-Fr this season) got some playing time this season but didn't seem to show up much in the stats, tackles, tfl's, ... I didn't notice the other RS-Fr Mostella getting into any games, and he is still listed as pretty thin (229 at 6'6"). Then there is the 2 true freshman that redshirted this season, McGraw and Townley.

So there are a good many DE's that could jump into the competition. But if the staff does not choose to bring in a transfer that may be because they also believe that DDS is up to the challenge of being the 4th or 5th DE for 2022.

If we don't see a Portal DE show up over the next month, that may signal that PSU is pretty confident that Isaac is on track with his recovery and is expected to be ready to go for Fall practice..... And Talley might be ready to be a situational pass rusher as well as a true freshman.

Really hope Isaac is 100%. He could fill in where AK left off as a dominant pass rusher. Tarburton is very solid and had some nice moments, but I wouldn’t describe him as an explosive pass rusher. IMO, neither Vilbert nor Fisher showed potential to be dangerous in the pass rush. Hoping Denis-Sutton can be that rare true Freshman to jump right in and be a disruptive presence for the D right away. If that happens he’ll leapfrog some other DEs and maybe slide into the #3 slot at DE.

WE ARE!!!

I was hopeful Luketa would return for another year at DE. He would drastically improve his draft stock with another year at DE.

I think Sutton is going to be one of our “immediate impact” guys from this class next season along with Singleton and Saunders! Love this class already!!

Tough to be an immediate impact player at DE. He will be going at OT that are likely 50-60 # bigger than what he face in HS and a lot quicker and athletic. He needs time in the weight room and technique help. Not to say he won't see the field especially later in the season.

I think his expectations will be overblown. Immediate impact means he comes in an tears it up which I doubt will occur. I think he earns more and more PT as the year goes on and gets better as the year goes on. Out of all the frosh, biggest possible immediate impact to me would be Singleton. He simply has that work ethic already that SB had, speed to burn, and can run physical. The only thing that could hold him back would be his ability to block early on which most frosh RB's tend to struggle with. So while some will b!tch and moan about Clifford, having a 5th year guy at QB will help him there in terms of pointing things out.

I wish Luketa would come back as well as strictly a DE. However, I think he has compared himself to Parsons since Day 1 and wants to get to the league with Micah ASAP.

Not sure, but before the season started you said this was a 9 win team, 8-4 at worst. They finished 7-5.
I said 8-4 , missed by one game. There is clearly only one reason.....coaching .LOL stupid fanboys.
It had nothing to do with Clifford's injury......oh wait, that was the coach's fault.
I have a great idea, let's all be fans of a team and then let's all assume we know more football than the coaches, and then.....and then..... we can post negative things about them and blame them for everything......sounds like fun. We Are???? Clowns.

Actually if the refs in the Illinois game made the correct call on the Illinois fumble you would have been spot on.

Luketa compares himself to Parsons? LOL and I like him and think he played well this year. Frankly, he strikes me as a special teams player initially in the NFL with maybe a chance to start later.

Well there also is the small detail of Singleton having absolutely no running room when he touches the ball and every third time he gets it a guy is immediately in his grill for a 3 yard loss.

Not to mention the coaches causing Stout to miss several key FGs, the defense giving up a game losing 47 yard TD on a simple 5 yard crossing pattern against Michigan and the game losing TD pass on 4th and 15 against MSU. As I said before, a coach who won 409 games always said there are generally 4 or 5 plays which determine the outcome of close games and the team that makes them wins and the team that doesn’t loses. Franklin deserves the blame for the Illinois debacle, but the coaches weren’t the reasons for the Michigan and MSU loses. Franklin makes the right call and punts on 4th and inches down 7-0 against MSU and Stout’s punt is downed at the MSU 1. I’m thinking maybe a safety or at least a 3 and out with good field position What happens? A 99 yard drive which starts with a 33 yard run off right tackle. I even saw a column from some “genius” claiming Franklin’s decision to punt was a mistake because (1) it showed a lack of confidence in the team and (2) it “led” to MSU’s 99 yard drive. Point #2 was easily the most moronic comment I have ever seen.

Or maybe Singleton bursts through small holes unlike the backs who this year all seemed like they were running in mud with some of the poorest vision I have seen in years.

Buck stops at the top. Get results or you are out. He gets paid 75 mill to win more than 7 of 12 games.

You probably could go back and blame every loss he has had on a boneheaded play by a player. Let's see...in the Rose Bowl the clown D-Line and LBs could not get to Darnold in the 4th quarter then the idiot McSorely throws a pick. O$U in '17, the stupid DBs can't cover and guess what they screwed it up again in 2018 by not tackling in the secondary. On and on it goes. Franklin can wash his hands of everything come to think of it. The guy is Teflon! He is Nick Saban's equal and the stupid players screw it all up.

I agree. But I’ve followed him on social media since high school and part of me believes he thinks he is close to the same plane as Parsons. That’s where the compare comment came from. Maybe I should have said close to. Either way I’d love for him to come back at de but know that ain’t gonna happen.

You mean microscopic holes that Barry Sanders would have trouble shimmying through. Yeah are RBs are lousy but the O-Line is horrendous. This brain trust coaching staff better figure out a way to get Singleton some running room or it will be a colossal waste of talent .

Love Jesse and his grit but he's not playing in the NFL. Free agent, will last a few days in camp. Take it to the bank. Too small and slow.

You had 9-3.

Luketa has 4-3 DE size. He has good first step and can shed blockers. Another year at DE puts him the draft. Think he could be drafted in round 3/4 with a really good year and round 2 with a great year.

Just imagine had he played defensive end each season instead of being jerked around.

DDS is not an EE. However, he's being talked about similar to YGM. To play on the DL as a freshman, you have to have the best for it and DDS does.

Well there is also the detail of him getting north and south in a GD hurry and is much faster than any back up there. We all know the OL and RPO are not not firing on all cylinders, but this was about frosh making an impact....right?

You and me both. Luketa improved so much from last year and he was starting to get better at rushing the passer later in the season, or at least I thought he was. Would love for him to come back another year.

On this year’s roster:

Ebeketie 6’3”, 256 lbs
Luketa 6’3”, 247 lbs

Size does not appear to be an issue for DDS.

Don't know if he'll be a force next year or not, but based on his size and skill level CJF thinks he has a chance to play right away even though he wasn't able to early enroll because of the way his high school does things.

For those who weren't aware and maybe missed CJF's signing day PC, his name is pronounced Dan-Eye, not Danny as I thought.
