David Taylor's Olympic Wrestling Schedule

86kg brackets released
DT & Yazdani: OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE BRACKET !!

If the two powers would meet, it would rightfully be in the gold medal match - the way it should be.

DT would look to have Myles Amine in a quarterfinal.

Looks like David Taylor drew Shabanau Ali of Belarus in match #194.
Obviously everyone in the Oly’s is good. That aside does anybody know if the Belarus dude is super good? Totally beatable?

Shabanau is a 4x world medalist.

He's also not from Belarus -- he's an import from Dagestan.

Most helpful thread ever. Just say you're posting the schedule in the title and then DON'T POST THE SCHEDULE!

Wrestling is the only sport that actively makes it difficult to watch. Everything from HS to World Championships is impossible to find times and channels for. Even the olympics is stupid. NBC puts up women's FS, Greco and Men's FS all in the same time blocks and ends each one w/ "Plus matches in 3 other divisions." So if you want to watch Men's FS you have to watch everything or you might miss it. You'd think a network that spent BILLIONS to broadcast it could figure out how to do this:

Women's FS - (Weights) - (Time) - (Channel)
Greco - (Weights) - (Time) - (Channel)
Men's FS - (Weights) - (Time) - (Channel)

But instead you get this listed in every time slot they're showing wrestling:
Wrestling
Round of 16 and quarterfinal matches in men's freestyle (74kg, 125kg) and women's freestyle (53kg) on Mat C, plus repechage matches in three other divisions.

What divisions? SCREW YOU, WE'RE NOT TELLING!!!

the tv broadcasts have been jumping around from mat to mat based on who's wrestling, but they've made sure to show all USA matches in full. if you want to watch a singular weight, you'll need to stream it.

also, figuring out which divisions are doing repechage isn't difficult. it's the ones that started yesterday.

DT's first opponent is Shabanau, who has moved up over time from 70 KG to 74KG then 79 KG and now 86 KG (which is more or less what DT has done since beginning college, though skipping 79 KG).

Taylor will have a length (height) advantage on him. One of Shabanau's main go-to moves seems to be a throw-by from an underhook, particularly from the left side.

Here are some highlights of Shabanau's matches if you might want to see him in action.

Hi everyone!

For those who don't know, I joined BWI back in July and am looking forward to covering David Taylor and the rest of the NLWC participants at the Olympics, starting of course with tonight's matches.

Agree with you 100 percent, @RB-Old. It's been easier to find info over the last couple of days but was quite a challenge prior to that.

Anyway, look forward to interacting with you all, both now and once the college season gets rolling later this year.

Mat assignments for tonight's action at 10 PM Eastern Time:

Gilman vs. Uguev (RUS) - 10th on A
Maroulis vs. Rong (CHN) - 6th on B
Taylor vs. Shabanau (BLR) - 8th on C

Other mat assignments of possible interest:

Micic (Serbia) vs Takahashi (JPN) 3rd on A
Yazdani (IRI) vs Shapiev (UZB) 3rd on C
Naifonov (RUS) vs Makoev (SVK) 6th on C
Amine (SMR) vs Izquierdo (COL) 7th on C

Aside: some of these wrestler's names would earn a lot of points in Scrabble ... that is if one were permitted to play proper names.

Welcome Greg. I recall your name tossed around these parts in the past, or maybe it was on the other PSU wrestling forum. Looking forward to your coverage.

Helen can't lose that match -- that would just be Rong.

I'm on a forest fire in NE WA hoping like hell I have enough service to watch.
Guess it's that time of the year again. Last summer, there were a bunch of NW guys who came to CA and AZ to help out. Hopefully we can return the favor if it's necessary.
