The first thing that occurs to me is the dictatorships (at whatever stage they are in any given country) have to be very worried if the Wagner Group succeeds in toppling Putin. If a coup can happen there, one can happen anywhere. I guess it remains to be seen if the Wagner group is just another mafia-like family replacing the Putin mafia-like family or if they will introduce something approaching an actual democracy at the end of the process.
A very simplistic analysis of the Russia situation is that a docile population will put up with political corruption for a long time, even though they know in the hearts they are the servants of the dictatorship and have no real say in how their country is "governed". But, even in those long suffering countries, the dictators can go too far and eventually the population will turn on them and join whatever opposition offers an opportunity to take the dictator out. What the straw is that breaks the camel's back depends on the country and their history of tolerating corrupt dictatorial governments. Is there a lesson here for some who would be dictators in the so-called Western democracies?
And, our esteemed leader and some of his henchmen like Eric Swalwell, when discussing arms control and the need to seize privately held weapons from ordinary citizens, have laughed at the concept of "armed patriots" opposing the government with these conventional weapons. Ha, they say....that's nonsense....the government has F-18s and nuclear weapons, what realistic chance would relatively lightly armed groups have against the mighty government military and its related police forces? Ha Ha
Are they sending the message that they would be willing to use that superior weaponry on us and kill massive numbers of ordinary citizens rather than give up power? Think about that.... is that the threat they are making to us? In any event, Russia has the very same situation in terms of having nukes and state police, etc, etc, yet here comes Prigozhin and his merry men marching on Moscow. Many regular army Russian soldiers and their leaders will soon have to chose between killing their friends and relatives or to stop defending a brutal dictator and the few who prosper under him who have reduced their country to third world shithole status. Let's see how that goes..... hmmmm
Just some food for thought.....
