Deon Sanders shames NFL teams who don't...

He has always been a chump. If the talent is there the teams will show up. They draft anyone that shows the correct potential. Including DII schools and lower.

If any pro scouts miss talent, for whatever reason, it is their team that is ultimately punished by not ending up with as much talent.
I don't disagree with your sentiments. But Deion Sanders is trying to build a program, and if he can persuade NFL scouts to come to Jackson State's Pro Day NOW, even though the talent level is a bit thin, it will help him recruit players who will make future visits to Jackson State's Pro Day a rewarding undertaking. I see nothing wrong with that. I hope he manages to get some NFL teams to show up. I also wish him the best after a trying several months of health challenges, including the amputation of two toes.

I had no idea that Deion Sanders had two toes amputated. I wonder what the issue is. Diabetes? I don't know. But anyway, that article says that 10 NFL teams didn't show up to their pro day, implying that 22 NFL teams did show up.

As an aside, in the era of NIL, I think any program without enough money thrown behind it could become a national powerhouse. It wouldn't surprise me if Jackson St or some other program that isn't nationally prominent now became prominent in the not too distant future.

So Mr Sanders is said to be worth $40 million. Can he use his own money as NIL funds? Pay a kid to endorse and flaunt his shoes or other crap? Or even just get NIL money to advertise the school’s athletic programs?

Well first no he can’t use his own money to pay players. By the way, like him or not, he was the best cover corner I ever saw in the NFL and I turn 70 in July.

The issue here is that 24 teams showed and he shamed the other 8.

Like you said if there is talent they will show. Or these kids can go to the combine.

He is saying they need to go to Jackson state if they go to Mississippi State which is hilariously stupid.

I wonder how that works. I assume a coach can't outright pay a player but if anyone offering NIL money can do so, it seems like just about anything goes. How about an entity wanting a good player at School X trying to lure him to transfer to School Y by offering more dough? Even if that's technically illegal I don't know how you'd police it. They call the guy up and make the offer. Unless you're bugging phones, you'd never know.

22 showed up. His comments were nonsensical. Not a single player was invited to the combine. He should have been thrilled 22 teams felt that attending was worth the trip. He should have made his point by praising those teams instead of doing what he did.

His comments weren’t for you. He understands what he was doing. Thanking 22 teams for showing up doesn’t get the coverage that knocking the ones who didn’t does.

From the article:

"“You 10 that’s missing, if I catch you at Mississippi State or Ole Miss (for those two SEC programs’ upcoming pro days), it’s going to be a problem. That’s all I’m saying.”"

How is that going to be a problem? Is he threatening 10 NFL teams? Threatening with what exactly?

He's an egotistical nut job who never learned to tackle.

While it is fine to trumpet HBCU's (which certainly have played and continue to play an important educational role in this country) to insinuate that someone competing at the HBCU level should be regarding as the same as someone competing in the P5 is just ridiculous. That is not to say there are not talented players at HBCU schools, but it is harder for them to prove themselves because they are playing against lesser competition.

I was under the (apparently mistaken) impression that no NFL team had RSVP'd to Jackson State's Pro Day, and that he was shaming teams in order to induce SOME of them to come. If he got 22 teams to show from the get-go, it seems to me that the shaming was unnecessary. And yes, he should have thanked the teams that showed. I suspect that he did so.

Oh no a coach looking out for his own interests, program, and his players......what an awful human he is. Same people love to gaslight themselves over nothing. He's getting that program attention and even some high end talent versus some of the bigger schools....so whatever he has been doing is working.

He had great speed allowing him to recover when he was out of position. But lucky for him I was never an opposing HC or OC. From the first play I would have sent my biggest tight end and my fullback into his zone and told them when they make a catch turn into him and run him over. Make a short pass before Sanders came up and then turn into him.

After a few plays he would have taken himself out of the game by halftime because he was scared as hell to make a tackle.

A wimp. A very, very fast wimp.

We'll see if it more or less teams show up next year--that will be whether it was successful.

I was critical of the comments but at no point said or implied he was "an awful human being".

Blood clots in his femoral artery from a previous surgery. Issue is consistent with his family history. Even a former world class athlete can't change their genetics. Haven't seen any confirmation that he is diabetic, but an article did say that if he is diabetic it would increase the chances of complications like he had.

I agree in general, but him saying "If I catch you at MSU or LSU, that's going to be a problem" is going too far.

Yeah, he really lucked out that the posters on this board weren't NFL coaches. We sure would have showed him!!

LOL.
