Not sure what the "depth chart" said before the MSU game, but wasn't Farmer getting a few snaps at Linebacker? And now he is listed as a Safety.
You never know how accurate these things are....but PSU certainly needs some depth at safety (with Lucas out)....so maybe this is a position move for Farmer.

Similarly, Nassib and Nelson both listed at 1st team coming off of injuries.....but that may be just a pro-forma.

T Brown being listed ahead of C Cothran at DE may mean nothing (and I am not sure where he was listed prior to MSU)....or could be a sign that he is in position to start spring ball with the 1st team replacing Nassib. T Brown was getting increasing reps throughout the year anyway.

to me this says they like Wendy more than Brendan Mahon as Laurent is starting and Mahon is second team. I thought #70 was one of our better players on the OL, such as it is.

You are assuming that the listed "chart" is an indication of the actual placement of the various players......which may or may not be true.

Just my opinion, but I think Mahon was much better at right tackle when he went there after Nelson was hurt, then at guard. To me it says they like Gaia better than Mahon, otherwise he would be at the RG spot.

Agree...Mahon appeared to played pretty well at the RT position, much better than OG.

yes true, but at this point, what else do we have??
What happened to Brendan Brosnan? He is a scholarship player who is not redshirting this year, correct? What about the other kid, Chaz Wright? They didn't make the depth chart? Right now, it appears as though it's the same six in the bowl game, and the same six in the spring, with maybe one or two of the redshirt freshmen or true frosh Memet? Sheesh, those three guys that we recruited in 2013 have now been here three years and they can't make the two deep?

Wow. Which actual line play are you watching? Nobody on this line has played "pretty well" in any way, shape, or form. We are 118th for Christ sake.

My observations regarding the bowl game depth chart:
  1. Surprised to see Mahon sitting. Some think he is better at OT than Guard. Maybe so. But he will have lots of competition at OT going forward in his PSU career, with the 4 2016 OL kids all pretty much being longer framed kids more suited to OL than Guard. But after this game the whole OL will be re-evaluated during Spring Fall practices with the addition of the 3 2015 OL kids redshirting as well as a few current OLinemen moving on.
  2. Regarding the OL, I am surprised Wright did not make the depth chart. He was hurt earlier this season - maybe he is still hurt.
  3. Farmer practiced last year at LB, but has been at Safety for some time now. I'm surprised Lucas is not ready to play given that he accepted invite to Senior Bowl which led me to think he was going to play in that game so likely ready now..... With Lucas not playing Farmer will likely get on the field some at Safety which will help him going forward. No way CJF burns a redshirt of one of the true frosh Safety kids for this one game. One of the other DB's such as Oruwariye has likely practiced at Safety for this game as well in case of injuries.
  4. Good for Garrity getting the start at punt returner! If either Thompkins or Polk could catch the ball consistently they would be back there..... but if you can't catch a punt you can't return it....
  5. No news at LB. But it will be interesting to see how the position depth may be reapportioned coming out of Spring practice. Reeder has gotten great experience and has done a great job as a true freshman, but he does not seem as athletic as some of the others and may be better suited as a MLB. With Wartman coming back next year it's likely that Wartman, Cabinda and Bell start, but the 2nd team guys will be a great group as well..... Bowen, Reeder, and Cooper.
  6. Big Toe did not regain the FG duties job. Will he kick off? Great story but so far just tooR inconsistent....
  7. RB position will likely take a big transition going into 2016, with Robinson and Sanders in the mix. I'm hoping Scott moves to DB/Safety this Spring. In the limited time I have seen him (Kickoff returns and a few carries) he looks athletic enough to contribute but I just don't see him having a future as a RB. CJF will bring in at least one great RB each year. Scott looks to have the build to play Safety and as a recruit was mentioned as a possible DB. I don't know where Allen will play, or Thomas. Can they beat out any of the top 3 (I'm assuming Barkley, Robinson, Sanders) to get playing time during their PSU careers?
Looking ahead to Spring practice and the 2016 Season:
  1. Biggest position unknowns for 2016: DT - White, Cothren, the RS freshmen, and maybe a true freshmen if Johnson leaves as expected, but if Johnson comes back DT moves all the way up to a strength as the talent is there to replace Zettel. QB - if Hack leaves, and if he comes back we have a known that has the potential to be a strenght..... TE - can Gesicki become a reliable receiver and better blocker, will Wilkerson return (I hope so), and will/can one or both of the redshirting kids be big contributors? OL - New talent plus many of the kids that made up this year's less than steller unit give reason for hope, but I see only Palmer and Nelson as having set positions at OT (not that they will even win those spots), as the staff will likely make lots of experiments this Spring to try and identify 5 starters and a 2-deep....
  2. Normal college transition positions for 2016: CB - Just Williams leaving and lots of players with experience coming back, including Reid who is getting better and better. DE - Can't replace Nassib, but having Sickels back bigger and stronger and the other 3 that have gotten experience is good, plus maybe a dynamic true frosh such as Simmons.
  3. Positions of strength for 2016: Safety - Allen will be a better decision maker and hopefuly tackler, plus Golden and Apke, with the 3 freshmen that are now redshirting (Munroe, Petrishen and Miller). WR - everyone back, bigger, stronger, more experienced and confident. Running Back - Barkley, Robinson, Sanders, plus the 3 kids that will be RS sophs..... LB -unless there are injuries adding Wartman to the young players that got lots of experience this year should produce a very solid LB unit, and will one of the 2 big 2015 Safety recruits (Petrishen and/or Miller) end up as a LB after a year in the PSU strength program?

Pretty well in comparison to the other OL we have!

I saw his picture on the back of a milk carton recently!

:D:p:D
Frankly I don't get it. He played against Sparty and I did not see where he was appreciably slower or hampered. We tried to target him once I think but Hack was sacked. Franklin won't tell anyone what's up, so it's all guess work.

We must be watching two different head coaches. The Franklin I know, comes into spring camp, develops a starting five which is set in stone for the Blue White game, and then that exact same line comes out and starts the season opening game. Two years now, exact same thing every time, and it's part of his philosophy which he has mentioned many times in press conferences.

Are you suggesting that Franklin is going to change his philosophy this spring? Or that possibly Moorhead will be given autonomy over personnel?
