No big surprises except Cam Brown. Is he hurt, doghouse, passed up by younger talent? Surprising to see a Senior who started 12 games last year fall to 4th on the depth chart.

Interesting that all 4 running backs are "OR". The depth chart has them equal. The two freshmen must be phenoms.

Keaton Ellis is second string cornerback. Ellis is an up and coming star.

Hamler will return kickoffs and punts. This sounds dangerous to me.

What's the deal with Donovan Johnson and Nick Tarburton? Did I miss something? Neither listed on depth chart.

Tarburton and Gonzalez both have been missing with "injuries" not sure about Donovan Johnson. This is the first I've been hearing about him not being available.

You can almost always say that. Good thing Miranda is so versatile!
I know they are young and lack experience but IMO this is the best OL depth we've had since Franklin arrived.
I agree in regard to the starters. Just concerned about multiple guys backing up multiple positions. Apparently still not there in terms of a three deep depth chart.

I kind of thought that is the way Franklin liked his OL, Players being able to play multiple positions?

Pinegar is the FG kicker and backup Kickoff specialist. Checa not only lost his spot to Stout, but isn't even the backup.

Stout is the backup punter, backup kicker and Kickoff specialist. Seems like a nice upgrade to both kickoffs and depth.

Whigan is a guard? Did I miss that news?

Agree on Donovan Johnson, biggest surprise

I think he likes guys to be versatile, but I also thinks he'd rather they hone their craft at one spot instead of spreading practice snaps across multiple positions. Creates better chemistry, which is essential to great line play.

The chart was cut off for the running backs. I’m assuming it’s Slade or Brown, then Cain, then Ford.
I looked to me that the Depth Chart said, "Slade or Brown or Cain or Ford". If so, the surprise for me is that right now the coaches think Ford is as good as Slade and Brown.

Miranda is going to be your sub on the interior. No point in putting Effner or Whigan on the DC as #2 at LG if they are not going in. For better or worse, the staff has believed in finding out who the #6 guy is and reshuffling the line as necessary.

Curious if Parsons remains the #2 behind Brown once he returns to the DC. Notice Hamler and Dotson are each other's #2. Apparently George is the clear-cut #4 WR.

Wonder if the appearance of Strange at #4 for TEs is indicative of anything playing time wise vs our freshmen WRs being absent?

Ellis spent a lot of time ranked near the bottom our our class and now he's going to be on the field, likely, the first, second, or third quickest it appears.

All well and good, but you are one injury away from having no depth at tackle with one guy backing up both positions. And one injury away from having no depth at guard and or center with one guy backing up three positions..

Roar Lions Roar website indicated Donovan Johnson may be hurt. Not sure about Tarburton but could be same situation.

same as it is in 100+ other D1 schools

If he hadn't already I doubt he would be starting. Give the kid a chance.
Agree. Wade winning the job over Brisker means that he had to play really well in camp to do it. The staff has said really positive things about him since the spring - and if he held off Brisker, he’s doing something right.

Listing another guy on the depth chart doesn't give them 'depth'. If Miranda is the best option, he should be listed #2 at each place he is the best option

I think you're going to see them move Hamler and Dotson around this year. I think we'll see them flip flop and at times I think you might see Dotson move inside and Chisena sub in on the outside. Dotson was primarily a slot guy in high school and I think they know that's where he is most valuable and want to utilize him there at times.

I think had Keaton Ellis not been injured his junior year he would have been ranked a lot higher. I am really excited about him and think he's going to be a star at PSU.

Right, you kind of make my point. they don't seem to have a lot of depth. If they had more quality depth, more guys would be listed.

I know that Wade did all the 5 star challenges and Rivals whatever camps, but he played 1A in high school, maybe he needed time to adjust to the level of competition and learning scheme. We’ve got so used to kids coming in and playing right away, that taking a few years to learn your craft seems like a bygone era, but some kids still develop that way

Not so sure I agree with that. What I see in this depth chart is that you have seven guys you are comfortable with playing. Hopefully Scruggs gets healthy.

Heck there is probably 50 schools that would be happy if they truly had 5 that could play on the OL! Many teams out there are playing with at least 1 slug, some 2.
