Anybody hear anything about this? Just read this another board and he deleted all connection to Penn State on his social media. Can anybody confirm and know why other than just a change of heart?

Tough loss as we really need 2 quality WRs from the portal and now back to 0.

So he did delete his commitment tweet and everything PSU related from his Twitter. He did enroll in school and is still enrolled technically. Outside of that, it's a wait and see game for everyone involved.

Given all this, how can the kid NOT be a flake?

The gopsusports roster has not been updated for players that enrolled in January. When it is, I guess we'll know for sure.

Purely rumor and speculation. So the narrative I heard is the WV threw some $$$ and PSU was asked to anti up. This is not the game PSU plays. It also raises (IMO) questions about fit.
Keep in mind that there is a "value" limit that the staff must put on any portal "purchase."
Not just WR but any position......#1 does adding this piece turn this room on its ear?
IMO, not this player. So there is a limit as to what you are willing to .....for want of a better term.....spend. So I'll say it....Carter would be a nice add, but do you honestly think he is worth setting the WR room upside down. My answer is no. So if he wishes to go for the most cash, I'm not losing sleep.
Some may disagree, but here are the facts. PSU has this philosophy: Roster retention is #1 and #2 priority. It may not be exciting to some. If there are resources to allocate, they will go to loyal and proven players. For example, Jacobs. This isn't splashy, but every retention, is equal to a portal acquisition or perhaps greater. If Jacobs left, could he have been replaced in value. Not easily.
IMO, NIL at PSU is being built to provide a long term benefit. In other words, some resources to make life good now and opportunities to grow through things like internships and sponsorships moving forward.
Florida, A&M, Texas ,even to some degree USC have not set the world on fire throwing big bucks at the portal and recruiting. It creates a very uneven and contentious locker room.

Here's another thought. I get the impression that the staff really likes Cephas. Due to the transcript issue, had he found another spot, he probably will (or would) take it.
I believe he's encountered the same response at several universities and his credits and time spent do not translate into eligibility is he transfers now.
So he has been advised to return to Kent to graduate this spring.
There is a good chance that this saga won't have a conclusion until after spring practice and graduation.
I surmise that the NCAA has been consulted to see if there is a path to eligibility for Cephas should he transfer now. The fact that he remains uncommitted is the only answer we have.

Cephas is rated #9 in the portal, Carter #43.
If Cephas is in the on deck circle, it's likely PSU is looking for a different body/skill type to supplement what's already in the room and then he would be the cherry on the sundae.
Just how I read the tea leaves.....but who knows?

Thought the transfer of credits would be an issue earlier in the portal game much sooner than this and maybe it has been but just not published. Time will tell.

However, as far as the NIL bidding nonsense goes let your competitors be the fools that destroy their team cohesiveness while burning up NIL money. How long will NIL contributors line up to drop their dimes for negative returns.

Was there a more cohesive and focused team in this year's bowl games than PSU? Keeping it that way makes every bit of sense. With NIL, invest in the best researched and perceived value, like in every other market.

The delay in admissions was known early on. I, for one, thought it was a PSU procedure (slow as molasses) issue. I've heard that PSU and UCLA have given him the same advice. He can't transfer enough credits to be eligible. So the plan has been to return to Kent State, graduate and start fresh as a grad transfer. If someone has other info, I'd like to hear it.

Having transferred as an undergraduate from PSU to Cal and later from Cal to PSU I can tell you the process of credit eligibility can take several steps. The procedure can take several iterations of exchange between both institutions. Initially I lost credits each way based on course descriptions alone. Upon exchange of detailed explanations of course content I regained eligibility for most credits. Even if the degree of pursuit has the same title the actual courses required can vary. Back then, each University seemed to want to disqualify nearly identical course completion to get you to pay for the same damn class with the new university. The molasses then was not unique to PSU and most of it was reasonable. The first review by major name and course name alone seemed foolish to me at the time. I hope that has changed but for some reason doubt it.

It usually costs more in terms of time and money to train up a new replacement to reach the same level of someone that might depart. From that perspective it's often better to keep what you've got.

I'm with you Rip...I'm working with a few former students right now to look into transferring to other places. While the comings and goings are mixes of publics and privates, and most places have apps on their website to try and equivalize classes for credit at the new school...it is still a convulaluted and slow process.

A coveted Dl football player certainly will get more attention than my "regular kids"...but the process is the same.

The irony here is just unbelievable …..

Players are now entering the transfer portal so they can go elsewhere and make (big) NIL bucks and some are now being held back by college credits or courses that won’t transfer? ie Academics are holding back (or slowing down) profit?

Am I missing something here??

I blame the NCAA and college presidents (and boards by association) for doing nothing and thus creating and allowing this ridiculousness.

Plenty of PSU players are getting NIL $ .

No one offers a "boat load" of money to the 43rd best WR in the portal. Perhaps WV offered just a bit more than what PSU saw as Carter's value. He's not going into any room and be the undisputed #1....if so your room is wanting. I think PSU is looking for a particular skill set/body type and they will eventually fill that need or make it work internally.
At this point in time, if you choose a few more dollars (short term reward) from WV over PSU, perhaps this is the best outcome for everyone.

The may have offered him a shot at being the starter in their empty QB room. Lol
