The law school is keeping it very hush-hush, are not reporting it, and are allowing the asst. dean to transfer to a different school instead (not being technically "fired").

This does not involve little boys, but has this school not learned their lesson when it comes to trying to keep things on the DL and inside? Even though the student was over 18, there is still an authority imbalance in the relationship which still is illegal, correct?

If a HS teacher sleeps with an 18 year old student, it is still illegal due to the authority paradigm. How is this different?

You don’t see the difference between a high school senior and a law student?

If someone is going to sleep with someone due to an "authority imbalance" by the time they're a law student, I dare say they may not be cut out for the law.

Also, I'm turning myself in to authorities this afternoon. My wife and I met and began dating as teenagers working at a movie theater. I was an usher supervisor and she was a mere usher. The rest of my life has been based on my abusing authority and forcing her into this.

Two consenting adults, so does this even matter? Trying to sensationalize a non story just because it is PSU because of recent history. Get a grip man! This happens everywhere! Throughout my life, I have learned of situations in the schools I attended and companies I worked for of people hooking up like this. Even my high school but we thought the guy was a freakin' god. He was 18, she was a 23 year old substitute. Then again the rumor was never confirmed and he could have been full of shiite.

No, it's not illegal. It would get your ass fired, but not thrown in jail.
HS teachers have been arrested and charged over having sex with 18 year old students. Please tell me what the difference is here, in the eyes of the law?

I remember when I worked at Pendent Publishing this guy slept with the cleaning lady - George something, he claimed that he was not aware it was wrong, wonder what ever happened to that guy.

The last I heard things were working out for him. He turned things around by doing the opposite of his instincts.

If she was 18, she wasn’t a law student. Perhaps she was an undergrad but she wouldn’t have been under his authority.

The OP states she was over 18. And calls her a student while only referencing Dickinson Law School. The assumption here is that she must be a law student—what other student would be subject to the “authority imbalance” claim?

I never said that he/she was 18. I was using the age of majority (18) as an example relating to cases that have been charged/convicted with HS teachers. Is this legally different, because it is post-HS?

Can you provide a for instance? I wouldn't think sex between consenting adults is illlegal, whatever the circumstances.
It is a commonly known law in education. Go ahead and do a quick search on Google, if you want real-life instances.

How do you live with yourself, sir?

I don't think this is right Jim. The institutional setting makes it illegal, irrespective of the age of the student. Almost positive.

Was that wrong? Should he have not done that?

Of course I see the social difference. However, I am referring to the legal difference

Big difference there too. One is illegal, the other is not. There is nothing illegal about two post high school adults having a mutually consensual relationship. I think people are confusing this situation with the MSU dean. There was nothing consensual about his activities.

You should have just followed your co-workers sage advice and hooked up with the girl at the snack bar.

Well, I googled. Apparently some states explicitly criminalize relationships between staff and students in high schools, others don't. But in the case of the Dickinson Law School, no way were any laws broken. But, really, "hands off the students" is a good rule to follow.

This is funny. Company policy is not law, and may not even be legal. Just like 1st Amendment rights. Sure, you can say most anything you want, you may just not keep your job. As far as sex, that comes down to institutional policy and state laws. May not be illegal, but you may not keep your job. If consensual, and over 18, I think it ridiculous to be illegal anywhere, but that's just me.

Yeah, it's like that woman who got fired for flipping off the President's motorcade. Not illegal, but not smart.

Many years ago on a football weekend I chatted with a woman in the Shandygaff who was wearing a t-shirt that said "Dick Law" on the front and "The Hard Law School" on the back.

I assume she is a law school student. I assume she went to college first. Therefore I assume she is at least 21 maybe 22 or 23. That is how it is different.
