Did he just say the Illinois line

Some thing for a coach to say, I know he didn't recruit these kids, but I'd never play for a guy that would say that about any of his players.

As candid as it gets but I don't see what purpose it serves. This is what you might say privately to your AD or your wife or maybe to a very trusted reporter off the record. But I don't see what purpose it serves to say this publicly before a game. It's not like he can drive players to the portal because for the most part they wouldn't have other schools who want them. It just seems to be he's making excuses for the fact that he doesn't have a competitive team.

You just know if you had a real coach, somebody like BOB, you would have positive messaging and the players would be playing to their talent level or beyond.

reminds me of john McKay when asked about his Tampa Bay teams performance, "We didn't block well, but we made up for it by not tackling". LOL
I remember that. McKay mixed humor with content to get his point across. BB didn't do that. He simply could have said that he's got great kids who are working their butts off to get better but we aren't there yet. That player development lacked with previous coaches and that this was going to take some time to correct.

Sounds like the bill of goods he sold on turning the Illini around is proving to be a much harder task. Honestly sounded like BB was more or less giving the hey, we aren't going to be good for awhile, its everyone else's fault and here is why.

Win by 50? The way the PSU offense looked with Roberson, no game is safe. They had better be careful to get control of this game early and not give the Illini any hope. Any football coach on earth would pack the box and force PSU to throw on Saturday. Hopefully the kid can throw the ball more than he showed at Kinnick.

Hopefully he will be better prepared than he was for Iowa.

two weeks practicing with the first team with Yurcich's undivided attention should help. But I don't know if you can fix throwing mechanics that fast.

I just hope for the small things... like our O not moving 25 yards backwards each series due to 4 or 5 false starts in a row.

Our defense can score enough to win this game.

BOB. You mean the guy who had every intention of using Paterno’s leftover players to parlay the PSU gig into an NFL job from the minute he walked on campus? Did so and was such an egomaniac and control freak that he had to be the GM too. Got that position too and traded one of the top 3 WRs in football for a washed up RB and a couple of dozen donuts and otherwise made personnel decisions that ran the Texans into the toilet. Maybe you should ask JJ Watt and some of the other veteran Texans if they think he was a “real” coach. If memory serves correctly when asked if he thought BOB was a good coach Watt responded by saying “Well he’s our coach”. Maybe I am in a minority of one but some posters love affair with O’Brien is misguided and tiresome.
