...enthusiasts may find the attached link interesting. Since there isn't much actual sports news now, I thought this would be a good time to post this.
By way of disclosure, I met Jay Livziey a few times when I was in late elementary and junior high school since my mother was a teacher in the Danville school district. As a kid, I thought he was a larger than life personna but years later, I think most enthusiasts for PA high school sports would consider him a true giant in the history of PA high school sports.
Since I remembered him, I was doing some internet research and came across the obit, which is now slightly over two years old.
It is lengthy, so some of the highlights are:
> Was a scholarship football player at Penn State.
> Was the head football coach at Danville back when they has some of the best teams in the state. Jack Curry was the QB then who went on to be a WR at Penn State and held a number of receiving records for some time.
> Was the state wrestling chairman for the PIAA for 24 years.
>Was the District 4 wrestling chairman for 24 years and, of course, was the head wrestling coach at Danville for some years.
>As a pilot, he would fly around between the state regional tournaments, pick up pictures so they would get to the PIAA HQs in a timely manner to prepare for the state tourney. Remember, this was back in the "stone age" of communication.
