Does a 2 year old need a ticket into Beaver Stadium?

Asking for a co-worker who is an alum....wants to bring her family to a game this year.
DISCLAIMER - this was like 8 years ago. I took my daughter through the gate in my arms, fully expecting to be turned away. The ticket taker scanned a spare ticket from his pocket and let us pass. It may be different now.

as a parent with kids I think it is such BS that a 1 and 2 year old have to have tickets to attend. My wife and I have Luxury Suite tix for Va Tech (she is an alum) and we can't take our two girls for the same reason.....yet we can get into every MLB stadium with them for nothing.

So see what's happening at your local MLB stadium...

Your suite companions will no doubt be happy with this policy.

I ran into this situation a few years ago when I had to get a ticket for my one year-old granddaughter. I bought a scalper's ticket and she sat with my daughter and me in the two seats we had. Honestly, guys, it's not real comfortable sharing a seat with an infant or small child. No small child will sit calmly on an adult's lap for three hours and it was tight.
It's also not pleasant for the folks sitting beside or in front of you as the child gets rambunctious and can/will kick or poke them. And if the child gets cranky, it's unwanted noise or a trip under the stands when it gets too noisy.
I wasn't happy that I had to pay for a ticket but if you think not only about yourselves but those around you, the policy makes sense. These seats aren't very wide and space is precious and I don't think anyone wants to share those with a child that's not their own.

As a parent with a 2 year old I fully support this rule. If you want to take the kid so bad buy a ticket. If you don't think it worth the price then why take them because obviously you don't think the child will get that much enjoyment. It a good rule especially in beaver stadium due to lack of space. The seats aren't even large enough to accommodate an adult let alone a adult with a kid on their lap. Add is the extra gear you have to bring and you see why they should be required a seat for the room.

Well I would think the only difference would be if the ticket taker either didn't have a spare, or was unwilling to give the spare ticket to you, in either case he'd have to either let her pass and hope his supervisor doesn't notice or tell you you can't bring her in without a ticket. You happened to encounter a nice ticket taker that had an extra unscanned ticket and let you use it.

+1000. Excellent post.

...and why in the world would you take a child under 2 to a football game, or any other athletic event for that matter?...

...they will absolutely NOT remember the experience - memory doesn't kick in that early - and you are exposing them to deafening noise as well as unseen viruses from hundreds of fans coughing and spitting as they roar...

...but thas jes my opinion...

There folks banging those kids annoy me. The kids can't enjoy the game and it affects those around them. I brought my an at gage four and stayed half the game the first time. By five he kid enjoy the whole ha,e. My daughter would stay the whole game at 6-7.
I've been around those with young kids and it's annoying, just like a movie or restaurant .

A little perspective, I believe it is insane to take an infant to a game and expect a normal gameday experience. The game I was referring to above was vs.U Buffalo (2007, I believe). If it had been cold or rainy, I would have never considered taking her. As a season ticket holder, I already owned the tix and nobody wanted to take them off my hands. So, the wife and I said, what the heck, let’s get out of the house. Lord knows, with an infant, you tend to stay home a lot. We went with low expectations (see what I did there?) for the day and did not expect to stay for the whole game. We took turns walking her around the upper concourse for the first half until she fell asleep.

Not once did my wife or daughter sit in a seat. Nobody was annoyed or put out in any way. Scores of people approached us to talk with her that day. She has no memory of it, but we love to talk about it on occasion. She loves hear about the day and it always brings a smile to her face. I see it as a memory and I didn’t have to flush $150 in tix down the toilet.

Take the kids to the blue white game and see how they do there. It's kid friendly. Regular season games are not the time to that try it out.

I laugh when I see people in these games with 1 and 2 year old's. Makes no sense. The kid won't remember a thing. Leave them at home!

It's baseball. They need you there.

To brag to their friends that their kid went to their first game at 1 years old. How else would you compare yourself to other parents.

Luxury suite and Vo Tech in the same sentence. That's a head scratcher for sure. Hire a baby sitter for the kids.

I didn't know VA Tech had luxury suites.
I was there a few years ago to see a High School championship game.
A good friend of mine nephew played on the same team as Tajh Boyd.
Anyway I don't remember seeing Luxury suites.

If one and two year old kids were allowed in free you'd see thousands at games. Might increase the crowd noise but everybody would be miserable and eventually drive away fans.

where do you expect to change the kids diapers? On the tables near the food stands where the napkins/condiments are? In the urinal troughs? Ask those around you to clear a bench so you can do it in the middle of the stands?

Or just make everyone around you smell poopie pants.

Tell her to leave the 2 year at home with a babysitter.
No one is going to enjoy it, not the kid, not the parents and especially not those sitting around them.
Great post. Wife and I have been to many games since the 1970's. Never took our kids. Our daughter will be attending her VERY 1st game on Saturday vs Kent st as an SHC first semester freshman. We can't wait to see her after the game. Go PENN STATE!

There are family restrooms in the South EZ upper deck. It was really a non-issue for us for the 1:30 she was in the stadium.

I have absolutely no issue with bringing kids to games, except for maybe the night games. A 2 year old is just too young. There are usually weather issues, whether its heat or rain and sound issues.
INMO I would have the cut off for bringing my child at 6 and then no night games.

For the life of me I don't know why so many feel compelled to poke fun at VPI. Living here in NoVA, I run into their grads all the time and I always make it a point to ask them which 4 star restaurant in Blacksburg serves the best possum stew.
