Does Trace return next year?

I think he's back. Even if they reach their goals this season, I think he's the kind of person who would want to go for it again in 2018. At his height he's unlikely to play pro football -- maybe Canada, maybe the periphery of the NFL. But wow, what an amazing college quarterback. I think the comparisons to Flutie are dead on -- Flutie had the same sort of intense competitiveness and incredible football IQ that Trace has.

IF McSorley goes to the NFL it would be after his senior year and then, as previously mentioned, as a fringe, career backup QB. That being said, I think he will go down as an all-time great PSU quarterback when is career is said and done. The comparison to Flutie is an excellent one, but to that point, I don't think Flutie would be a starting QB in the NFL as it exists today.

Do you guys realize that Drew Brees is 6' 0" tall, same as Trace? He would be a great round 3-4 pick as developmental talent.

Yes, and Drew Brees played 4 years (although he did not redshirt). He did not enter the NFL draft early as you're suggesting Trace might do. Also, your statement that he would be a 3-4 pick as a developmental talent emphasizes the point that he has no business entering the draft a year early. You only come out early if you're a first rounder or if there are other extenuating circumstances, such as financial hardship.

He'll make a pro roster...likely as a backup. If he sticks around for a few years, he'd be able to put a nice little chunk of change away to start his life. Then, with his football IQ, I could see him work his way up the coaching ranks (if that's something he'd want to do).

You’re probably right. But neither would Russel Wilson. And who thought the walk-on QB from Scranton would have a more successful collegiate and NFL career than the 5* brought in a few years after? You just never know what his career will look like. But it’s reaonanle to expect 4 years in college. And my word PSU should be good for the next several at least...

Karen my bride and I were talking on our weekly travel to town, she mentioned Trace is too short to play in the NFL. I mentioned, if Trace is at least 6', he does have the body size and better touch with the ball then Karen's favorite subject (tic) Matt MaGloin. We've been sitting within a handshake of the team and we can observe the players attitudes, character, attention of the game, etc.

I'm happy for Matt, he believed in himself that he could be the QB of the team. It happened with a good showing. As my son mentioned, it a shame the Eagles didn't retain Matt, because he is an example that Penn State has success with walkons, given many others that preceed.

Walk on ambassadors

He may not be back if he’s selected as the next President of the University of Michigan. I’ll be checking Wikipedia daily.

Yes that is a much better question.

I believe, if he had any intentions of transferring, he would have already done so. Nothing’s going to change. I think he’s content with being the starter in 2019.

A better question is will Stevens return next year or will he transfer
Unless he is a graduate transfer, he would have to sit out a year and only have I yr. of eligibility left. He will stay here, play more next year and be the starter his senior year.

I'm really not sure why so many here seem to think that Trace won't make an NFL roster - although I don't think he'll leave early. Matt McGloin was able to make a decent living in the NFL, and Trace has shown superior physical tools and has had better production at the college level with a year and a half to continue to develop. That's no disrespect to McGloin, but if he can make a living in the NFL for a few years then Trace absolutely can.

I personally think it’s very possible Trace leaves but mainly due to the fact that he’s already 22 years old as he’s not only a year older than his class due to that sabbatical he took with his family as a teenager but he was also a RS.

It’s very reasonable to think he may be ready to move on from college (especially if they win out) & get his adult life started & give the pros a shot in some capacity as he’d already be approaching 24 years old by the time the 2019 NFL season rolls around if he stayed another season. It’s easy for us to say he should stay since he’d still have eligibility but it all depends on his life goals.

I’d expect him to, assuming JoMo returns. He’d be one injury away from playing all year and he’d be basically guaranteed his senior year as a starter. Wouldn’t get more elsewhere.

I hope Trace stays and gets his masters. If not, I am supremely confident in Tommy Stevens. In fact, I think Tommy might prove to be an even greater running threat.

I don't think Trace's arm is as good as McGloin's. I also think the offense we run isn't conducive to an easy transition to the NFL. I just think those two factors make him too big of a project. Who knows though? Cleveland drafted Johnny Football in the first round with all the same limitations.

Sevens enrolled early and Franklin has said he wants his players to graduate in three years (by taking up to 9 credits each summer) so I expect Stevens could easily graduate this fall and potentially follow Moorhead...

Good point were made that he's one play away and hasn't already. Bottom line is if he doesn't transfer immediately after the season he probably won't even transfer.

He has a decent shot to win the Heisman next year.
He’ll be on watch list from the get go.
He’ll have a solid line and receiving corpse next year.

Stephens can go pro with one year at the helm.

I know that he does not have pro size. Doug Flutie proved that heart can trump size. Trace is a proven winner.
It depends how much he wants the money. He could earn $200k in the CFL.

Flutie signed a big contract with Donald Trump in tbe USFL before moving to the CFL and ultimately the NFL.

I don't think he leaves early. If he were to be drafted, it would be late round.

He could be an x factor type of guy. Someone mention ed Edelman. I could see that, but he isn't as fast I don't think. A safety, an ST guy, and a swiss army knife on offense. You know the guy will work -- that has real value.
