Donovan Smith prides himself on having started every regular season game for three seasons. But that 48-game streak may be in jeopardy for the Bucs left tackle.

Smith suffered what appeared to be a fairly serious knee injury during an 11-on-11 period in training camp Tuesday.

Smith appeared to get rolled up on the back side of a running play. He tossed his helmet off and remained on the ground for a minute or two. Smith needed to be helped off the field by trainers.

The Bucs can ill afford to lose Smith, who blocks the blind side for quarterbacks Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Coach Dirk Koetter had no update on the injury after practice.

"We'll have to see," Koetter said. "I've said this many times when guys get hurt in practice, they come in and have the docs look at the them and run their tests and we'll know something later."

He was recruited by Paterno. Then played under O’Brien. I think he just had enough of all the changes so he graduated and moved on. Smart move. Wish he’d kept his mouth shut, but he’ll always be a Penn Stater to me. Hung in there when the easy choice was to leave.

Reports: Donovan Smith out 2-4 weeks with sprained knee

Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Donavan Smith is set to miss 2-4 weeks due to a sprained knee sustained in practice on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

Smith was rolled up on during a team period of practice early in the day.

If the injury plays out to the longest extent of the projected absence, Smith could miss Tampa Bay’s first two regular season games on the road against the New Orleans Saints and at home against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
