Don't write off Harrison Wallace

He did drop a few passes but I remember a kid who dropped the ball a lot. Mike Gesicki went on to hold the record for most catches by a,PSU TE.
All the WR discussion seems to be on the portal. On paper, I see none who have more potential.
You are an expert on the portal? Frankly, I would trust the coaches’ assessment.

I don’t think the fans need convincing. It is the PSU coaching staff who believes they need more WR help via the portal. I trust the PSU coaches in this situation.

The known is KLS. Wallace, Clifford, and Evans all played and showed some flash in 2022. The unknowns are Saunders, Ivey, Driver, and Johnson. Taylor is an incoming freshman. Don’t see spots for Meiga and Dottin. Need to add two or three portal guys.

I don’t see anyone writing him off. Wallace has a ton of potential. Constancy is his biggest issue. We have a lot of youth at WR. Completely agree with the staff bringing in older player. Staff is also targeting larger WR’s. Something that’s been missing at WR for years.

I always considered critical reading skills were an essential "must have" for leadership roles on my teams. No where in my post did I suggest that coaches not pursue WRs in the portal. My point is that Wallace can become a tier one WR, if he improves. He seems to be close. I suspect that he, the other WRs and Drew will be very busy this off season.

I hope you are right. We’ll see

The wide receiver room is high on potential and low on experience and perhaps the poise that comes with confidence.

We all see receivers in the NFL drop passes 'They Should Have Caught' every week of the season.

It has always been fun for me to watch a wide receiver transition from the speed of highschool play and develop the techniques and knowledge to perform at the P5 level.

Lambert-Smith has made great strides and I believe Wallace, despite dropping one, gained some confidence in his Rose Bowl performance.

The coaching staff is looking for some specific WR types with experience and that is wise for many reasons. One thing we should not overlook is: coaches can coach players and experienced players can also coach younger players. This can be one of the better outcomes of the transfer portal.

You nailed it. Lots of young and inexperienced talent in that room. I think Mary is on to something as well as I expect Wallace to be one that develops into a pretty good college receiver with a shot at the pros.

For those discussing the portal, yes, we could use an experienced guy in the room like when we brought in Tinsley. He didn't set the world on fire but he was a very consistent pass catcher and did most things well. Without a portal wr that consistent and experienced pass catcher probably falls to our TEs alone. The rest of the receivers that have shown flashes haven't been super consistent yet.

I wish we had a high 4* WR coming in but unfortunately we only got one WR in this class, 3* Carmello Taylor. I'd be surprised if he was the answer for 2023. We'll have to count on returning players + whatever we can pick up in the portal.

Agree I think he’s going to be pretty good. He has all the tools.

A 4* that gets high? That'll do it.

I remember a time when players weren’t a washout after one season I don’t discount the portal but uloyou recruit and develop your guys
Today more so than before, coaches are under tremendous pressure to win now. Most fans, donors and school administrators don’t want to hear about 4 to 5 year rebuilds. The portal is only going to exacerbate this. Winning quickly is all that keeps the hounds at bay.

And playing quickly is the best way to stop portal transfers.
