Dr. Mesenbrink

Seems like a really smart guy. Someone told me he plays chess (in tournaments) and solves the rubix cube in seconds.
your thinking of the PSU pommel horse guy......just kidding, he does seem like a smart guy. Was in Nashville and of all of the wrestlers he was the one that I wanted to see versus Missouri......but Missouri guy hurt in the earlier match......disappointed that he did not go.

My source is my 90 year old aunt who goes to all of the home meets, and someone sitting next to her told her this, so my source probably isn't very good. 😄 She does get things mixed up.

Somewhat mind boggling, but Cael has won more National championships than Big10 championships. He can elevate both the physical and mental peak within that final 2 week period, both for the team and individuals.
Kinda off topic but did you catch the interview this week with Messenbrink? I thought it was the most interesting I've seen in awhile from one of our wrestlers. He seems almost obsessed with the psychology of sport...like it's a passion of his to understand as much as he can about the human psyche.

I heard another interview of his last year where he talked about Bonnie and how much she means to him. I'll bet he spends alot of time with her and now I'm thinking if he does, his visits are probably more about learning from her now than to actually help him in getting his mind right. He said he's a Psychology major. I wonder if that was his major before arriving to PSU. Anyway, I said it before, if he goes into coaching, he's going to be a great one.

You heard it here first, and with zero disrespect to our many other greats.

I just have a feeling that Mitch's NCAA and world career will be deserving, his temperament, approach, and leadership skills are stellar, and the timing might just be correct, that he will be a front-runner to replace Cael someday.

So interesting to hear Willie say Mitchell was a "hothead" in H.S. It is great to see that Mitchell has really grown in that area. I would guess his interactions with Bonnie Epstein have been a big part of his emotional maturity. Mitchell has mentioned previously how much he values her input.

Askren helped with that. Ben definitely held him accountable. It wasn't always roses but Ben made him stop acting that way . Mitchell was definitely kicked out of the room a few times at Askren

LOL...
I never saw many extra curriculars that Ben has mentioned in previous interviews.. I'm guessing Ben just remembers from previous things.
Amazing what they developed.

I admire that he, and other top wrestlers, have accepted that the best way to excel is to learn from a variety of top performers. Not just in wrestling but throughout the business world as well. I wish I had humbled myself at their age to listen to the wise and accept that I knew very little. Their mental game and toughness is just extraordinary. I was such a caveman and hedonist at their age. I admire the culture of continual learning these athletes crave and their uncanny ability to many tiny, meaningful adjustments. Plus, on the mat, wow. A joy to witness.
