If i were a D strategist I would suggest the Democratic party try to trade his DACA deal [5 million on path to citizenship] for the wall funding and here is why.
. DT's most avid supporters want the wall funded. The D's hate the idea however many D's use as a reason that it won't work. So if they find a way to not filibuster and maybe even let a couple of the red state D's support it here is what could happen.
. The D's get their dreamers in
. they give up a wall that many don't think will work anyway, so a net plus for the D's.
However the big reason is as follows:
. If the R's get 2 Supreme's, a wall, a tax cut, and a rollback of regs, [all of which have or will happen] except the wall many will feel "they have won" and their enthusiasm will slow down. Many R's held there nose and voted for DT because of the above. With those "off the table enthusiam from the right could die down.
. Giving in on dreamer's path to citizenship could alienate the hardest core Trump supporters further dampening support.
On the other hand, if the R's get a wall in addition to the supremes it could create tremendous unit R support among the "folks".
For those who doubt this train of thought think for a minute what single event rallied the R base to huge gains over the next 8 years. Answer Obamacare.
I would say Obamacare while I don't like it may have been worth falling on their sword over funding a wall that many believe won't even work could be a "cheap" way to regain Congress.
Thoughts?
