Okay, I'll put it out there even if just to start a discussion: David Taylor did not look like himself in that finals match. Nobody can convince me that he couldn't have chewed either of his last two opponents up, so why the low scoring, few takedown affairs? It's not like he was there to work on riding when that's not really part of the freestyle game. I'm baffled and eager to hear the thoughts of the brain trust, if you will.

He looked tired. Those more in the know about these things say it takes a lot of adjustment for the cardiovascular system to handle all that extra weight - even good weight. He was taking his time to get back to the center most of the match - when have you ever seen that.

At the end of the match I thought he looked fine, I just don't think he came in with a gameplan. DT's good enough where he can just do whatever and still win comfortably. This tournament was more about getting in some tech work on some bigger guys. Freestyle has definitely affected his mode, which is a good thing. Dudley is a solid wrestler though, and the weight change definitely took away from the bonus factor.

I also started cringing when Dudley laced DT's shoulder. Good way to dislocate, a bit surprised the ref didn't stop it. That hurt just watching

I agree with most of the above. It did look like his overall game plan was to not give any points...Iowa kid got the escape and we all saw Dudley win a scramble for 2. Believe that is why he was determined to ride out guys vs TD games.... Interesting how the better guys didn't allow him hand control on top (the kind he wants for his tilts)... the opponents extra lbs looked like just enough to keep him from getting a cross wrist...

i think DT is a man without a weight class... ok sure, give him some time to adjust.. but the world's best at 86K don't need anytime to adjust.. .they are brutal already. i don't follow it as much as you guys - isn't his move up just to move away from JBurroughs - initially i guess Dake as well but he moved up as well? i would think that any guy top 10 world would be just as tough, if not tougher, than JBurroughs at his normal weight.

Except that the ~163 wasn't his normal weight anymore.

Well he knew in his mind that he didn't need bonus points....Was just wrestling for himself without a coach....Maybe his upcoming wedding was on his mind too. Who knows....Bet if he had to major him in a team race it would have happened !

Yea, I don't know, winning a Midlands title while finished wrestling Folk seems like an accomplishment to this guy. It was never going to be enough for some. I expected a little more offense, but I'll move on and so will David with a smile. Seems like nothing else to talk about until tomm is what this is.
