New thread, answering a question from dunk that is buried under another topic, that I thought others would be interested to know.

Please remember...this is fluid, and could change up to the day of the tournament. I will try to keep this info updated.

Princeton Open (November 4th) - tentative list
Lopez (125), Gardner (149), Berge (157), Bisono (174), and Nicholas (285)

Clarion Open (November 5th) - tentative list
Clabaugh (125), Blumer (141), Lee (141), Pipher (149), and Friery (157)

As noted, and I can't stress this enough...this info is preliminary, and subject to change.

Makes sense, speculation is that he will at 149 next year to replace Zain...if true, why make it more difficult this year while adjusting to college by going 149 for Opens?
Alternate opinion...if a wrestler plans on a certain weight...live the life (diet, discipline, weight management) for a year prior to going at that weight.

Interesting because we don’t typically see many cases of weight cutting under Cael. Not saying he won’t go 49 next year but something to think about

Ed Ruth shirted at 184.

What Roar said, plus some guys want the extra challenge.

At Christmas 2015, had you told be Friery would be wrestling 157 in 2017-18, I would never have listened to another word you said.

Curious how open tournaments work. Are they on the wrestlers dime or the School? Also, any chance we could see our Redshirts at Midlands? We have a hell of group would be sweet to see them compete there.

Redshirts will likely all be at the Scuffle with the rest of the team

Redshirts have to pay their own way.

Though that's a great lead-in for a question I keep forgetting to ask: can those expenses be reimbursed later if the shirt gets pulled?

Seriously doubt Midlands will happen, since they had no room for Hall last year.

Ok thanks. For some reason I was thinking teams could only take so many guys like the starters and two or three others.
Scuffle allows teams to bring everyone they want, until the event cap is hit. That's an overall event limit, not a limit per weight.

Scuffle does limit scoring to 15 pre-chosen wrestlers per team. None of whom can be shirts since shirts must wrestle unattached.

One more thing...once a school pays for more than 6 wrestlers (non-RS's) for a tournament, it becomes a competition date...and that can't happen, as we're maxed out. For this year, the Classic and the Scuffle are already competition dates.

Just to clarify, it is 10 scorers out of the 15 pre-chosen possible scorers, right? Higher scorer at any weight where you have more than one is the counting scorer.

Thanks Roar!

The redshirt rules have been discussed so often I am pretty much aware what the deal is with those athletes.
One area not discussed much is the graduates. If a person graduates does he/she still require aid? What type of classes is that athlete required to take?

Every situation is unique, though "yes" graduates can get aid. They must carry a full load (by the school's definition), and be working towards a degree.

To receive aid or to compete? Or Both?
Sorry for any confusion, but this can get complicated...it's all in the Rulebook, though I can't, in good conscience, ask anyone to read it :).

- A graduate student can continue to get aid
- A graduate student is exempt from the "full-time" student requirement (12 credits at PSU), and instead must take 6 credit hours of coursework. This is enough to allow them to compete.
- "Working towards a degree" can be defined by the University, so I'm not exactly sure what that means for a graduate degree.

Hope this helps.

Will there be any sort of coverage for the Princeton Open?
Trackwrestling. I will be there, was going to see my guy compete, but a sprained MCL is keeping him out until next week at least. But I will be there to see Berge up close as well as a few Binghamton RS kids (and some tOSU guys lol). Also, looking forward to seeing Louie DePrez match up with Myles Martin.
