I have been reading some posts that are disturbing to me as some "Penn State Fans" seem to be so negative on the players and coaches. This needs to stop, and everyone needs to realize the following:
1. The B1G consists of a vast array of different talent levels, coaching styles and history.
2. Like any other conference, it is true that on any given Saturday; the home team has the advantage, unless they are grossly outmatched talent wise! Being in the B1G East makes it even more difficult.
3. Penn State is still feeling the affects of the sanction era by not having an Elite OL, DL and even LB corp yet, although this has been in a rebuilding mode over the last few years.
4. Coach Moorhead has done a great job with the offense realizing where the limitations are yet (the OL), but when it comes down to close games where a ground game is necessary, we've seen the results the last 2 games.
5. CJF and his assistants have done a remarkably great job to get us back in the national picture these last 2 seasons, but need another few years of continued elite recruiting classes to get us into a true national championship caliber team. Hell, OSU has no excuse for yesterday's showing in Iowa other than we beat them up both physically and mentally last week in Columbus, and Fernetz knows how to prepare his team (and fans) for key match-ups against the cream of the B1G crop.
6. When the games were on the line the last 2 games, it showed that we need the talent level of kids like a Parsons rushing the QB to at least force errant throws. We have talented DE's and DT's, but not elite ones yet! It seems like we haven't since Larry Johnson was still here, but that's yesterday's news.
7. I love Cabinda and we seem to also have younger LB talent, but honestly; LBU also seems like a distant past. This IS correctable again with continued recruiting improvements.
8. Saquon Barkley IS the best player in College Football today, but will now be delegated to a NYC attendee rather than the Heisman winner unfortunately. WHY? Because our OL isn't where it needs to be to provide Moorhead with the opportunity to run a more ideal offensive formation like Saquon WILL see in the NFL (get the ball where he can see the defenses with a blocker in front of him to lead the way).
In summary, we are a very good and gifted football team, and will likely finish the season at 10-2 again like last season and end up in a very good bowl game. We are still not at the Alabama level yet (but really, who is?) as we need a few more years of great recruiting, and start to play smash-mouth football again on the LOS!
