ED RUTH DID NOT KNOW WHO CAEL WAS…lol

Ditto that. Also a cool guy as can be seen in this video. Casey is probably the only person that ever rode Ed for more than 20 seconds. Certainly no one he met in college did.
Agree with him being a good guy. Very genuine person. At one of his camps he spent so much time after the camp talking with kids and parents (Mostly Iowa/IA St fans) and was happy to do so.

As far as the being ridden thing goes, I know Nick Amuchastegui rode him for a bit at NCAAs. I know there was an injury, but if I recall, it occurred while being ridden.

Ironically, outside of Casey, the other NCAA wrestler most likely to accumulate a few seconds of RT was probably his teammate Matt Brown. Maybe also DT, who knows.

Nice payback by Ruth the following year.

Nick was a very good wrestler, and a really smart guy.

About

I'm a software engineer devoting most of my time to management, systems architecture, and machine learning. I was once a mechanic and a farm kid (might still be a little), a wrestler, and a mechanical engineer. I'm hopeful that these things help me bring a sense of humility, directness, and grit bear to bear on the problems I encounter with my team.

Amuchastegui has grit bear inside him! Is that even stronger than lone-wolf intestinal fortitude? :)

He probably did. But Cael didn’t recruit Ed to psu. Ed commited to Sunderland
I haven't watched the interview but context matters here -- Ed knew who Cael was before college, because Cael recruited him while at Iowa State.

Ed has told the story that when PSU announced Cael as the new coach one of Ed's friends mentioned Cael's resume and Ed said he had no idea who Cael Sanderson was. He may have been recruited by ISU, but knowing Ed I can see him not being aware of who Cael Sanderson was. I can even see Ed knowing Iowa State was pursuing him without being aware the head coach's name was Cael.

The injury first occurred in the 1st period on a shot by with Ed up
2-1. He was never the same after but tried to gut it out.

I also liked the fact that Ed commented about being able to get other guys tired when he wrestled them but that he couldn't get Cael tired. PSU wrestlers usually have great gas tanks and it's a reflection of their coaches and training.
