Does anyone think that this game will kickoff at any time other than 7 or 8 pm? If so, why?

There are some other decent matchups that day. You already are going head to head with Stanford-ND, which is currently scheduled for 7:30 pm. Tennessee at Georgia and Florida at MSU are good southern regionals. Baylor at Oklahoma might also be a good choice. Depending on how good Louisville is, FSU at Louisville is another possibility. Our game is certainly on the radar--but there are other valid choices.

My guesses:
Stanford-ND 6pm NBC
Tennessee-UGA 3:30 CBS
Florida-MSU 1pm SECN
Baylor-Oklahoma 4pm FS1
FSU-Louisville 7pm ESPN
PSU-OSU - 8pm ABC

None of those, not even ND, will draw eyes like OSU at PSU.

The Stanford-ND game seems to be already listed at 7:30.

FWIW, many (if not all) of the B1G prime-time games that aired on ABC last year didn't kick at 8 PM. They kicked at 7:30 PM. Examples: Oklahoma @ OSU, PSU @ Iowa, MSU @ Michigan, and Michigan @ PSU.

Not sure if that will repeat in 2018. But that was a thing last year.

Hearing 4 PM on Fox should be announced shortly. Same tv slot as the Ohio St game last year.

A day game would make zero sense, especially in light of Meyer's "I wish they picked a different game for the whiteout" line.

It was only 4pm last year due to MLB playoffs.

What does Meyer's comment have to do with the time of the game? Has nothing to do with anything in reality

What does the baseball schedule look like for that day on Fox?. Last year the World Series was scheduled hence why the game was the time slot it was. Penn State-Ohio State was the third selection taken in the Big Ten last year. It went Ohio State Michigan, ABC followed with Oklahoma OSU, Fox then picked Ohio State Penn State.

FS1 has a Brewers game at 7:10. That is all ESPN shows as scheduled.

The playoffs don’t start until the week after the PSU/OSU game. It shouldn’t affect game time at all.

Week 4 last year Fox had an 8:00 game, Notre Dame at Michigan State. Week 5 they had an 8:00 game, Oklahoma State at Texas Tech. Week 9 last year they did not because of the World Series so we were at 3:30.

It's going to be a night game. OSU will be top 5 and PSU top 10 when they play. It's going to be the biggest matchup of the day.

Don't see how it won't be 730/8 with Gameday and the whole bit. Should be two top ten undefeated teams as long as OSU gets my TCU and we don't get upset in our two road night games. Winner is probably going to win the division and play in the conference championship game for a playoff berth. We'll be the center of the college football world for the day.

I get the logic here but big time games are often played at 330 as well...or 4

That's true, but networks rarely pass on an opportunity to put a white out on in prime time when it's a matchup of a top 10 PSU vs a top 5 OSU. I honestly think this one is a no brainer. I will be shocked if it's not the night game.

I completely disagree. I think you're 100% wrong.

ABC/ESPN will have the first choice of B1G game this week. And they don't have to make that choice now. They don't have to choose until 13-days out (Sunday 16-September).

There are really only 2 plausible choices for ABC/ESPN to make that week. OSU @ PSU and Michigan @ Northwestern. The other 3 B1G games that week involve either (1) a MAC team or (2) a team from the state of Indiana. Those 3 B1G games aren't getting selected first.

It's not completely impossible ABC/ESPN would choose Michigan @ Northwestern over OSU @ PSU. For instance, if Michigan beats Notre Dame, Northwestern is undefeated, Ohio State loses to TCU, and we lose to Pittsburgh. In that scenario, Michigan @ Northwestern is --- arguably --- the better game.

But the primary point is - ABC/ESPN don't have to make a choice until mid-September. Why would they choose Michigan @ Northwestern (the only way OSU @ PSU has a chance to go to Fox) now?

I'm not going to pretend I know the TV deals in place but how did the game end of on Fox last year? I can't imagine ESPN would ever allow Fox to get Penn State-Ohio State unless both teams crash and burn

Didn't Clemson get upset by Syracuse in a Friday night away game last year? That is a tricky spot. Especially the week before Ohio State.

Illinois is going to have to improve greatly which I suppose is possible. Likely we'd have to have a similar scenario to Clemson to lose. Our starting QB goes down and we play someone with no experience. I think Tommy should be good/experienced enough to survive that type of game. I can't see us losing to Pitt but I said that two years ago as well

Fox had 1st choice of the B1G game that particular week.

Before the season starts, Fox and ABC/ESPN have a "draft" where they choose the particular weeks where they have first choice of the B1G game. Fox gets first pick in this "draft" annually (by virtue of paying more rights fees).

Last Year:

1. Fox - last week of the season (aired OSU @ Michigan).
2. ABC/ESPN - second week of the season (aired Oklahoma @ OSU).
3. Fox - last week of October (aired PSU @ OSU).
4. ABC/ESPN - second to last week of October (aired Michigan @ PSU).

If you look at the ratings for those 4 particular games last year, they are exactly correlated (in terms of their ranking with the "order in which they were drafted." The networks did a very good job predicting what games would draw the eyeballs.

This year:

1. Fox - last week of the season (nearly certain to air Michigan @ OSU).
2. ABC/ESPN - last week of September (week of OSU @ PSU and Michigan @ Northwestern games).
3. Fox - 3rd week of October (week of Michigan @ MSU).
4. ABC/ESPN - first week of November (has already signaled they will air Notre Dame @ Northwestern. Which means PSU @ U-M likely falls to Fox).

Cool--thanks--great explanation. Appreciate it

Given that I’ll be in Paris that weekend, I’ll take that 4pm start. 8:00 and I’ll have very little chance of seeing much of it.
