Anyone know what they are planning on doing with the brackets and team scoring? There are 16 teams, each allowed to bring 20 wrestlers so there will be more than 16 in every bracket and as many as 32. Any wrestler does not get a first round bye that loses in the 1st or 2nd round would reach the limit in the match after making the top 8 so what place are they awarded? If they lose in the quarters and they would not be able to wrestle in the 3rd or 5th place bouts if they got that far. Could make for quite a mess.

This same scenario happened at Binghamton last week. They didn't wrestle the matches when one of the wrestlers already reached 6 matches. Not sure how each wrestler "placed" in those weight classes

The difference is Keystone keeps team scores. However, the winner of the team title is not much in doubt.

I thought they omitted the Consi Semi Round. In other words, the semi final losers wrestle for 3rd and the winner of the loser bracket can only wrestle back to 5th place. I may have to double check that.

In Binghamton they used different brackets in different weight classes to try to mitigate this - not very successfully. Wrestlebacks to 5th in some, to 3rd in others. Whatever they do its doubtful you will see any 5th or 7th matches

If 32-man bracket, Semi-finalists wrestled for 3rd/4th, and didn't drop to wrestle-backs.
If 64-man bracket, they did drop down.

Once any wrestler got to 6 bouts, criteria was used (called "RULE" on the brackets) to determine a winner. Haven't figured out the criteria. And strange happenings at 149...semi-finalist losers dropped down, but their opponents maxed out, and "RULE" was applied, so there was no consi semi-finals. Yet the 2 guys that dropped down wrestled for 3rd. Granted, neither had 6 bouts in, just seemed odd after 2 no-bouts to have a bout.

Dodgeball tournament?

I like it but doubt it would be fair to the other teams. After all that was the biggest thing Bo worked on in the off season. I hear his dodging, throwing and catching skills have improved considerably!

Wouldn't it make more sense (and more in line with International Tourneys) to drop 1st Rd Losers from wrestle-backs? Essentially have wrestle-backs start after the bye-round once the bracket is full?

There are 12 teams at the Classic, not 16, should definitely help with the 6 match limit. Probably looking at around 24 wrestlers per weight class.

Not in my opinion. Everyone that goes to a tournament such as this should be guaranteed at least 2 matches.

That will help although there will still be some placement matches that won't happen. Don't know why I was thinking there were 16 teams.

Do not like this at all. The point of these tournaments is to get matches. Couldnt mean less whether a kid gets 5th or has to forfeit because he reached his limit

Yea, I hear you, but the point of the Tourney Host is always to crown a legit Champ and Podium for that matter. Makes zero sense to prevent a kid that wants, and has earned the right, to wrestle for his 3rd Place trophy in the Consi Finals from wrestling..... 6-match limit is stupid in this regard. So if the point of these tourneys is to get consecutive matches and tournament-style practice in, it seems kind of counter-productive to tell a kid that has EARNED his way to the Consi-Finals that he is not permitted to wrestle (btw, it isn't fair to his opponent or the fans that attend to crown a Consi-Bracket Champ via forfeit due to such a stupid rule).

Whoa...this is the Keystone Classic, not a conference tourney or the national championship. The 6-bout limit is for SAFETY reasons, and I'm all for that.

Agree, 6 matches is plenty in one day, unless you are Nolf, his 6 matches time wise probably adds up to about 18 minutes.
