You bring up an interesting point that I cannot fully understand. I get that "older" Syracuse alums would dislike Penn State and JoePa because the Orange lost its status as Beast of the East to PSU and Joe in the late 60s. Prior to 1968, Syracuse was a national player, winning a title in 1959 and producing a series of superstar RBs like Jim Brown, Ernie Davie, Floyd Little, and Larry Czonka. Once Joe established Penn State as a national power with those 1968-69 squads, Syracuse was basically done.
But goodness gracious, Syracuse has been a football non-factor since then, a span of nearly 50 years. Why would current Syracuse grads at ESPN still hate Penn State football? Heck, PDSU is clearly miles behind SU in "their" sport. I do not mean to imply you are wrong; I just don't understand why the Syracuse hatred of the Nittany Lions still exists.
And as to Northwestern ... what would their axe to grind be with Penn State?
