Its amazing these talking heads just babble on and on.Like the biggest winner or loser in the first round. It would be fun to go back and see if any of their bull bleep was correct.Biggest losers are people like me who are watching this stuff

All this time expended on the NFL DRAFT is ridiculous. Babbling on and on like this is rocket science. Worse yet, making the draft selections seem like life and death. Even worse, people glued to their TVs watching every minute of this.

I sure did like the segment ESPN did this morning with Coach Franklin. Franklln was able to extol the virtues of not only Saquon, but also Gesicki, Marcus Allen, and Daesean Hamilton. The NFL Draft has become a must for the really big time coaches. Saban and Kirby Smart joined Franklin in Dallas yesterday, and my guess is that other high profile college coaches were there, too.

I admit I had the draft on the entire time 80% of the time my eyes were on the book I was reading ("Hamilton" by Ron Chernow) and about half the time the audio was on mute too.

The draft itself is interesting enough but the way they try to make it a BIG SHOW gets annoying. As I pointed out in another post, the Giants said they wanted to draft Barkley right away but by an NFL rule they had to wait five minutes. The NFL is trying to build the tension apparently.

I watched on Fox (since I don't have cable and don't get ESPN or NFLN). It was okay but one of their things going across the bottom of the screen was the Thursday Night schedule for the games they're televising this fall. Can't they just cover the draft instead of selling me on games four months in the future?

Agreed. We are getting a lot of good press as a result of excessive draft coverage. Franklin and Saquon have been all over the various ESPN channels.

Obviously not for everyone but since I have no life I actually find it’s an interesting night.

Learned a lot about some very good players that I wasn’t “that” aware of because of my focus on PSU, interesting personal background discussions, lots of highlight plays that you recognize from the last year or two but from different angles, lots of discussions about the NFL teams and their respective strengths and weaknesses.

To me it’s an informative, interesting evening. Sure, there’s a lot of “filler” time, but that’s when I let Fonzie out to pee, that’s when I do the same and then there’s time to grab the H-D or B&J’s from the freezer.

Actually watched the ESPN version and recorded the NFL Network version to watch sometime in the future.

I second this. Personally, if you're not watching Mayock you're doing yourself a disservice or you're not a football guy :p

Mayock had an awesome quote last night when Eisen was wondering why a team was taking so long to send in a pick (I think it was Cleveland or NYG towards the beginning).

Paraphrasing here, but: "The cynic in me says this has something to do with television..."

I love Mayock whether it's games, the draft, or NFLN in general. The guy knows his stuff and does a great job of showing the "behind the scenes" elements that make plays happen. Plus.....his daughter is a Penn Stater.

I watched it up until about the 6th pick or so then I binged on the new Lost in Space. LOL.
ESPN has ruined it. I used to love watching it on Sat. and Sun. now its so far over the top its not even funny.

Yeah I know his daughter. He lives in the Philly suburbs, I believe his son played football at Nova. And I agree with all of the above.

how is that?

I got a kick out of the one "expert" who started yelling that there was a trade between Wash and OAK...the other guys were looking at him like he had three heads...finally, the guy says oops, my bad, was looking at the list wrong.

And that is really funny. LOL.

Edit: Oh wait you mean how is Lost in Space? My bad.
I like it a lot. The Robot is excellent. The basic plot is the same but has some really nice twists in it. Dr. Smith is just wow.

I got a kick out of ESPN's first highlight of Denzel Ward after it was announced the Browns picked him. It shows him covering DeAndre Thompkins where Thompkins rips the ball from him in the endzone and actually scores a td on him. I thought it was one of those plays where two guys both make good competitive plays but I thought it was amusing for the #4 pick to be showcased with a play he was scored on.

Actually, that's a good idea for more interesting draft watching. After every player is drafted, instead of showing his good plays, show all his bad plays.

The beers went right through both of you, eh? How did the Fonz like the draft?

Only watched the NFL network. I wouldn’t have minded seeing Herbie’s take on some of the picks, but I didn’t want to sit through the rest of the nonsense.

Not sure if they did it last night, but ESPN used to always announce the pick before the commissioner announced it, like it was a huge scoop or something. The NFL network was respectful and didn’t do any of that.

Nope, the Commish walked out.....got booed.....announced the pick.....and then the four ESPNers micro-analyzed it to death.

General observation is this is an awful venue for the draft. The fans are either rude or not too interested, and half the seats seem empty. They cheer for nothing - the old timers up there having the time of their lives get zero response. This is tough to watch. Go back to a more intimate setting with rowdier fans. And try to get some players to show up.

Also, watching Guice fall this far is pretty interesting....guess his pre-draft process was rough; missed meetings, late for appointments, etc.

Also apparently unreported incidents while at LSU. That peaked my spidey sense as to what LSU is hiding.

Update: Mayock says an incident is being investigated that could be "embarrassing to the kid and the team that drafts him".

Character matters.
