Wow.

I know for fact that Donnie P was not a big fan of Brands even prior to this.

I’m sure this hasn’t helped matters lol

During the Imar - Cenzo final at B1G's all you could hear was Brands from the other mat.

He was saying that Hegel’s Rechtsphilosophie was a work of sophistry and Richie heartily disagreed

That's pretty funny. A rare philosophical reference kamakaze-ing into the world of wrestling. Almost as humorous as Kierkegaard's wry remark about Hegel's Science of Logic—namely, that it was a great work but would have been even better if Hegel had admitted at the very end of hundreds of pages of complex reasoning that it was all just a Gedankenexperiment (thought experiment). [Somewhere, Woody Allen might be considering this as a scene in a future film called "Wrestling with Absurdity".]

I don't think you can be embarrassed....don't you have to have a conscience first?

You definitely have to have at least a small amount of self-awareness and the capacity for shame.

If Terry (first of all his name is f**king Terry) had the guts to join the military and the smarts to do it as an officer....just google the term “fragged”.

What a hilarious jackass.

Yeah I had zero problem with what Massa or Lewis did. They have to listen to a coach chirp at them and talk smack and be quiet? Screw it they won big matches and gave it right back!! If you can dish it out...

That said Tom Brands showed class and composure in both of those instances.

Terry Brands is unique. I didn't like him at first because he was so moody and aloof. But I think a lot of that was because of his natural intensity. He cares so much about winning and losing. You can see it when he wrestles.

Tom is the same way, and I admire that. I respect that.

....
We drove back to Iowa City in the early evening. Tom Brands was driving, and Terry was in the back seat, and all of a sudden they started arguing about something totally stupid--a song on the radio--and within about 5 seconds there were fists flying. I swear, it's like they're 2 years old.

I have a problem with it. I know what JVP would say: Act like you've been there before!!! Not like some Jersey stereotype!

Can’t argue with that take. Like I said though I do understand their take too. It’s not like they were chirping or flexing off marinelli, they just sick of terry or whoever is constantly shooting their mouth off when they are trying to wrestle a match. They are human and probably sick of it. Think about it. Two separate wrestlers went at the Iowa wrestling staff emotionally after winning. Why is that???

Tom Brands is great for college wrestling.

Terry Brands is an asshole who belongs in a mental ward.
Tom is really great for PSU wrestling. In wrestling politics, Tom and Cael usually agree about what is best for the sport and Tom has not figured out how to challenge Cael for dominance in the sport. Tom probably does enough to keep his job at Iowa since at this time their is not an obvious choice to do a better job.

All Turk did 90% of the match was paw at the head and backup. Then he looks all upset at the end like he was wronged or something.

I've written this before, but many years ago, when Terry was heading up UT Chatt, they dualed with UNI at the West Gym. Some UNI fans were lightly ribbing Terry and he kept signaling for them to come down and face him, face to face, all while the dual was in progress.

I kind of guessed him to be a hopeless loose cannon since that time.

Turk acted like a twerp and was probably following the cue of a coach that likes to twerk. But, I had the impression that the timing of that right hook (or was it left?) that drew the penalty made it look worse than it was. That’s why I think he was protestive at the end.

When the coach is yelling at the opponent (not the opponent's coach), it is an indication of poor sportsmanship. No reason to go there.
Thanks for quoting me. Not going to change my mind. Shall i dig up some old BWI threads on Richie Lewis? Lot of compliments sent his way..

Not sure what kind of "man" that is coaching yells at a student athlete while trying to compete. But I'm sure he has his good qualities that I am not privy to. Tom seems more subdued.

Come on Turk the remark was about Terry, the "adult" in this situation.

Love those Brands bros. Great men!

I have an older brother. I love him and want only good things for him. He frequently does things to embarrass himself and others. Not great. Wish he’d stop.

The more I think about this, I would be almost certain that what Terry Brands did in this case would be (1) against Iowa's institutional policy of code of conduct and/or (2) against NCAA policy.

Perhaps the AD at Iowa would like to review this?
