FAA just grounded all Southwest Airlines flights

They have outdated, slow computer systems and there's no quick way to fix it. Their data links to the FAA have been a problem for years. We were delayed 3 hours out of Denver a couple months ago because the airline couldn't file the flight plan -- the link to the FAA was down. It affected some flights and not others. This sounds like a similar problem. I would avoid SW for a while because it could be years till they have built and certified replacement systems. They should have been fixing these during covid when they had surplus capacity. SW management must be just abysmal.

I understand that their mobile app either quit working or was really flakey. Most travelers simply can't travel without their app these days. Unforgivable, really, especially with what happened back at Xmas time.

you are correct that is a complete failure by SW to not have upgraded this over time. it is sad as SW used to be by far the best in the business for customer service and ability to make things easy. it is how they became who they are. but pretty obvious that short term profits (most likely pushed by CEO to drive up share prices for stock options and bonuses) were put over fixing long term issues.
