I'm re-watching Band of Brothers and thinking about Major Winters and all that he mattered to the allied effort. Then I think about how he lived within 30 minutes of pretty much every school in Lancaster County but also that he never once came to school and relayed his heroic experiences in WWII. Each and every kid should have been giving the honor to shake his hand and hear his thoughts on life and what it means to be an American.

I'm not totally to blame though, he passed away when I was 31 so I had plenty of time as an adult to reach out and see if he would be willing to talk.

What iconic figures should be speaking to school children now? Buzz Aldren? Captain Sully? Tammy Duckworth? Kids need to be taught about being humble and being able to count on the people around you. Americans need to get together and that will happen when we realize we're on the same team.
