There is a controversy brewing (or being brewed) regarding Luke Combs cover of Tracy Chapman’s ‘fast car’.
Fast car has always been one of my favorite songs. Tracy is originally from Cleveland and came out of nowhere with that song to me. It is in the same genre as Springsteen’s born to run. Chapman, it should be noted, is also a woman of color and gay.
Now, we have Luke covering this song and it has shot to the top of the country charts. There are people upset that it a white make straight country artist would use a black gay woman’s song with success.
To me, this is a great example of the fact that we are all more similar than dissimilar. So it is maddening that the media is using this to further divide people rather than unite them.
