"As to whether there is any further action required"?

The word "further" implies some action has already been taken. Neither MSU, the NCAA nor the Big Ten has taken any action yet. A couple people retired at MSU and that's the extent of it.

They don't want to make any hasty decisions, but rather let the legal process run its course.

MSU plays at Nebraska next season. Maybe one of the Huskers coaches will give a pregame lecture/sermon.

Maybe MSU will be told to walk solemnly out of the tunnel with the black covered copy of the latest issue of "The Spartan" or whatever it is, linked arm in arm in front of a stadium draped in (your dark color here). Maybe Magic can show up on ESPN and cry. Maybe next time Maryland shows up at E.L. they'll refuse to shake at the coin toss. Let me know when a judge says "You're lucky you're even floor exercising."

Penn State hierarchy would be wise to disappear forever.

Never again point the finger at people who had nothing to do with your utter incompetence.

Take a lesson from MSU....Quit now. Every BOT hump, every shrimp-eating grazer at every meeting, convention, or workshop, please just walk now. We've only been begging for this for six years.

At least the Michigan legislature has a set of cherries.

Maybe Delany/Big Ten can give us an update on the Gibbons/Lewan situation at Michigan.......oh, closed and filed under.............no action needed.
Maybe there should be a review of the Commissioners emails as he to seems to have been..............asleep at the switch which makes him........................

These guys will be resigning or retiring in the next 3-6 months. They are definitely complicit in this mess. The covered it up.

Does anyone else remember when Michigan kicked their kicker out of school three weeks after football season his senior year for a sexual assault case from his sophomore year?

I'm still not understanding this Redmond woman.

She has a come-to-Jesus meeting with Emmert and lays out all kinds of sheiss involving girls/women and emmert gives her hopeful encouragement.

Then off he goes after Penn State's boy troubles.

And Redmond? Where has she been in all of this? Why didn't she come out loud and often about meeting with marky and ask why all the attention is on penn state and not on the little girl's being assaulted at msu?

And here I'll allow someone who knows the facts to chime in... it might be she did just that and it got drowned out. She might have taken other avenues I know nothing about. Maybe she got some other people at msu to take a closer look at the problems they had (well, that likely isn't it since nothing happened).

Seriously, does anyone know more? I'm trying to keep an open mind but I'm having some difficulty understanding why this woman's advocate seemed (note the qualifier... truth might be different) to let emmert and msu off the hook.

They are waiting for MSU to release a report that admits that they are all guilty and so is everybody within a 50 mile radius. Until they see that report there is not much they can do.

Well, they said they’re closely monitoring and there are (and will be) plenty of other investigations. The story is still unraveling.
The NCAA and B1G screwed up in our case. Let’s hope this seeming restraint is the first step in doing better, and reducing the unnecessary collateral damage, this time.

I believe they, both the ncaa and b1g, received enough backlash over the Penn State situation that they will never take such harsh action so quickly again (regardless of a university's willingness to capitulate).
Agreed. But I suspect our situation was more than simple capitulation. In other words there is evidence to suggest that the "play" run by the NCAA & B1G was "drawn up" at Old Main.

Please forgive the football analogy, but, as we all know, I am part of a culture so obsessed with football that we value it moreso even than human decency.

Fair point about Old Main's involvement. Still, I believe the ncaa and b1g will steer clear of such situations if confronted with them in the future. I've posted many times over the years that Penn State's involvement in determining the sanctions, whatever it was, was no justification whatsoever for the actions of the ncaa or b1g. Effective and ethical leaders do the right thing, even in difficult situations. Were emmert or delany effective and ethical, they would have rejected any proposal from Penn State, period. emmert had a responsibility to abide by ncaa by-laws, including the mandates that penalties be handed down only for violations of ncaa rules and only after the ncaa conducts its own investigation. emmert willfully and blatantly ignored obvious ncaa procedure. He should have fried for it.

Damnit. I was really trying to tee you up for the "I. HATE. US." reply.

If I remember correctly they made a similar statement with PSU during Freeh's fairly tale investigation so BIG may fine them as well.

"The conference will continue to closely monitor each of the investigations, along with the numerous lawsuits filed against Michigan State University before drawing any conclusions as to whether there is further action required"

That's one way to go. Sometimes, it's done differently.

I have a feeling that if college football were every placed under a microscope by the "me too" movement, very few programs will be able to meet the standards that society now expects with regard to allegations of sexual misconduct. In this environment, I believe society will demand that any player or coach accused allegation of sexual misconduct be suspended until proven innocent regardless of the nature of the sexual misconduct. How many college coaches do you think have looked the other way if sexual misconduct was alleged but the player was never charged with a crime?

I believe the fallout of placing college athletics (especially football) would be far worse than Hollywood.
