fc CFT article on PSU getting the bowl money for past season, comments section pretty

This is why it's impossible to follow Penn State in the press anymore. I'm on a NASCAR board and had to read this about Penn State on Gordon's car over the weekend. I actually go over there to get a break from this stuff sometimes but it cannot be avoided. This school, its alumni and fans are in the eyes of the world a leper colony. Worse than that, we're pretty consistently regarded as basically evil people. Wrap your head around that a minute. Combine that with the PA papers' consistent anti-Penn State inflammatory stories. The philly.com site has been trumpeting the lawsuit this kid filed against Penn State for his frat hazing. Go find that one and read the comments.

I really think people here underestimate the revulsion that the public has for Penn State. When some nut on a racing forum with no discernible connection at all to college athletics is motivated enough to post anti-Penn State stuff four years after the story hit the fan, what do you think the motivation is of the average fan in the conference or of any D1-foe? It's a safe bet that any story about Penn State, however benign and regardless of topic, is going to be blasted with hateful rhetoric.

This can't be. Peetz said nobody would remember about this in 2014.

I want to remind my fellow posters that Penn State has had our detractors long before 2011. The Sandusky issue just allows them the issue to bang PSU. Most are jealous and that's the emotion where this is born.

there are several posts on BWI about trolls that have multiple user names posting hatred and negative comments, often outright lies.
CFT is one but PennLive is another. Is there any way to limit these abusive haters or do the WEBsites need the hits so bad they allow people to falsely post over and over ???:(:(

Readers' Comments are where the idiots hang out. I won't lose a minute of sleep fretting over something posted in any Readers' Comments section.

Churchill once said that the best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. I pretty much feel that way about the average sports fan, at least those passionate enough to post on message boards (and, yes, that includes me).

One of the downsides of social media is that it gives minorities, sometimes small or tiny, an amplified public voice far beyond their credentials. I'd be very slow to assume that any like members of a social media group represent the opinions of a larger group in which they claim membership.

That certainly doesn't mean that it was OK for our own trustees to hand our detractors the loaded gun to shoot us with.

Yesterday, George Mitchell was on Charlie Rose and as I listened to him rail about the scourge of money in our political system. I just wanted to calmly tell him that he should be embarrassed to cash the checks from PSU and that he is a total hypocrite and money whore himself.

Yep. I used to have a lot of respect for him. Now it's completely gone. If he had any integrity at all his first report would have said that Louis Freeh was wrong about the "integrity" of the Penn State athletics program.
