FC: Fields granted immediate eligibility by NCAA*

There is not a universe that exists in which the NCAA wants to enter into a drawn-out, extremely public fight where they’re forced to argue that being called a racial slur by a fellow student-athlete isn’t a sufficient hardship. The endgame is pretty clearly to continue to grant these case-by-case “exceptions” until they functionally become the norm - and, IMO, that’s the right thing to do.

And when they become the norm? Then what?

Only those a-holes could manufacture a transfer like this. Can't develop a QB so let's buy one.

Justin's own words:

Fields released a statement through the university expressing gratitude to the NCAA and saying he did not regret starting his career for Georgia before transferring to Ohio State after one season.

"I thank God for His guidance during this time of uncertainty," Fields said. "I would like to thank the NCAA for its approval of the waiver allowing me to be eligible to play football this fall. I also want to thank all those who supported and encouraged my family and me during this process. While my case was pending before the NCAA, my family and I did not feel that it was appropriate to publicly speak about the circumstances leading to my transfer. In my silence, people began to speculate, and the story took on a life of its own.

"Now that this matter is concluded, I would like to clarify some facts. I have no regrets about my time at UGA and have no hard feelings for the school or football program. My overall experience at UGA was fully consistent with UGA’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. My sister is a softball player at UGA. I am still close friends with many of my UGA teammates. A part of me will always be a Georgia Bulldogs fan.

"To Buckeye Nation: thank you for your warm welcome. I will work hard to represent you and The Ohio State University in a professional and respectful manner. My dad always tells me that “you can’t get to where you are going by looking in the 'rear view mirror.'” I’m ready to move forward and embrace the next season of my life.

"I will not be speaking about my transfer again. Instead, I will focus all of my attention on getting to work in the classroom and on the field – and doing whatever else I can to help my teammates as we prepare for the 2019 season."

**note -- this kid will be easy to root against. Divine guidance?

There was no doubt which way this was going but it is still hilarious. Someone somewhere said something racist, that he didn't even hear, so he should be immediately eligible.

UGA is full committed to diversity and inclusion....I just wanted to play right away so I made some sh!t up.

Last year Georgia had the top rated class and OSU was second. The Georgia class was considered the second best class in the last 15 years. The OSU class was considered the fifth best class in the last 15 years. Adding Fields to it may make it the best Big 10 class ever assembled.

And the 100%-TOTALLY LEADERLESS NCAA continues to make wrong decision after wrong decision after wrong decision.

(Hell, even moving their headquarters from Kansas City to Indianapolis years ago was a stupid decision. They can’t even get internal decisions right!)

Just remember, five star QBs who transfer out because they can't win a starting job usually do not make a big splash at their transfer destination. Big Ten football is very different from high school and Fields still has to bridge that gap. Fields may be better than Ohio State's other options but it's highly unlikely he will be anything like Haskins. With all the transitions in Columbus this could be the year Ohio State falls down a notch.

I don’t believe that the NCAA has much, if any, say in the college football hall of fame.

I recall the first building for the HoF was Cincinnati, then to South Bend, now Atlanta.

Let's not hate on the player. It is the system that needs adjustments.

Suppose an exceptionally talented kid wants to play for PSU for a good reason and enters the 'portal process' to do so. Would you, as a fan, reject him? DOUBTFUL!

Such is life today. Or is Early/Regular National Signing Day the end all and be all. How do you feel about other sports?

The NCAA has clarified that the “immediate transfer waiver” is to also include:

- anyone having a roommate that snores.

- anyone not having a ‘ro worthy girlfriend.

- anyone having tasted Miracle Whip instead of Hellmann’s by mistake (or not by mistake).

- anyone having seen someone put ketchup on a hot dog.

- anyone wanting to transfer to the Big 2 of the Big 2(12). (“Rule of 85” waived, transfers not included in this total.)

- anyone saying “pretty please”.

- anyone saying “fxxk this shit, they told me I’d be starting by now”.

- anyone born in the USA or has visited the USA or can spell USA.

ANY AND ALL OTHER CASES that fall outside these guidelines will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

If players can enter the transfer portal and be eligible to play right away, you will have coaches texting freshman players who think they didn't play enough (ALL OF THEM) saying if they transfer to their school they will play right away. Smaller schools who find a diamond in the rough player, he'll be getting texts from the Blue bloods saying "Come to our school and win a national championship".

All of you guys who say "Good! Let them play right away" have zero understanding of what the consequences of all this are going to be.
