I think this is CJF’s way of trying to keep a guy who has or will have a lot of offers to get promoted somewhere else. Preemptive strike so to speak.
Titular promotion more than anything, I'm sure it comes with a little salary bump, perhaps a few more administrative responsibilities, maybe a nice new contract.
Whatever the reality I'm sure it's important to SS which is the big thing.

Not a preemptive strike. He’s promoting the program and the players and the assistant coaches. And it’s not really to keep these guys from moving up or out. It’s to be a thoroughfare for opportunity and a magnet for talent. It’s working.
Program is hitting its stride and players and coaches are jumping on board and advancing their careers quickly. Moves like this are part of the process.
The rising tide raises all ships.

Ah - buried in another thread discussing a different coaching hire. Thus, the ‘FC’. Thanks.
If he hasn't been preparing all along, then they started too late. There is also the possibility that Spencer bolts before Pry does.
The move is to shift some admin responsibilities and throw more money Spencer's way.
